My son need your help

Some of you might know me from the VSG forum.  I had VSG a little over a year ago with a starting BMI of about 46..  I am 12 pounds under goal now.  This journey has been incredibly easy for me.  My son just had surgery a week ago (March 12).  He is struggling.  Although at his 1 week post op he lost 14 pounds since surgery (25 pounds since pre-op diet).  I thought he would be thrilled!  NOT SO!  He is having buyers remorse so bad right now.  I painted such a pretty picture of how everything was so easy after surgery....no hunger, no interest in food, etc.  Well it has been just the opposite for him.

He says he is starving.  (Yes, he is taking a PPI).  He has one more week of full liquids, then to soft foods.  He says he is soooo sick of soup.  He DOES NOT want any thing SWEET.  So that leaves out some crunchy Popsicles.  Ice chips...um no!  He has done the "chew and spit" thing just to chew something.

He started out at a BMI of about 63, so he was a BIG eater.  I can only imagine what his body (and head) must be going through, to go from what he ate pre-op to nothing but strained soups now.  I know he only has a week to go till soft foods, but I was hoping some of you could offer him some encouragement (if you haven't already done so on the VSG board).  That is where he posts (when he posts).  Here is a link to his OH page:  www.obesityhelp.com/member/billyb0b81/

Thanks so much,
Brooke K

Oh Brooke,

I feel his pain...I was the same way. I was hungry! What helped me was I made some potato soup. One potato, some skim milk and 1 tablespoon of I Can't Believe it's Not Butter . I know it's soup but it was not canned and it just tasted wonderful.
It gets better soon as you are not so restricted on what you can eat. I told my doctor on my 2 week follow up that I was hungry and I could not deal with one more protein shake. He allowed me to go on soft solids at two weeks, but I was doing incredibly well..,.no nausea or anything.
I will go on his page and chat with him if I can

Brooke,

I am really sorry to hear your son is having a difficult time after his surgery and it is not unusual but what I would suggest is get him some counseling.  For what he has gone through and what he stands to gain it is certainly worth the effort.  I hope things work out for him...........

Thanks to all for your responses.  Brian is on soft (mushies) now and is doing so much better.  His buyer's remorse lasted a day or two, but now he is really glad to begin his journey!

Hugs,
