hey everyone i know i havent been on here in a while its because im really upset one week im told i lost 15 then the very next week i gained three back somehow some way and what do i do when i find that out well i got mad and kinda gave up. i'm like this aint no game.i have to loose fifty pounds before i loose weight and at first it seems easy but its hella hard. like i told my doctor my sister in the car eating wendy's my favorite and i had a protein shake for breakfast and yet i'm the one gaining 3 pounds are you serious. i go see my surgeon this coming saturday and i wanna tell him so bad look i really need this cause if it were not so i would have lost the weight already. anyhow my point is i been back to eating regular food against the doctors orders cause i am mad i feel like i failed already and my family see me giving up and they feel like they have failed me cause they be eating around me all the time which then makes me feel like they dont want to eat around my fat ass. now the protein drinks was not bad at all in fact i did not really feel hungry after drinking them and i do feel real gassy and have lots of bowl movements from eating regular food and i want to stick with the plan the point is im going crazy trying to loose fifty before surgery and the fact that its going up one minute down the next is killing me. not to mention she now says i have high blood pressure something i have never had a problem with

Hi. I am so sorry you are going through what you are going through right now. I can absolutely relate to your situation. when I first started the process of gastric bypass surgery, the surgeon I chose told me AFTER I had already done all of the required tests that I had to lose 40-50 pounds before he would do my surgery. I was like, are you kidding me. If I could lose the weight why would I need to have the surgery. Well after a year of just loosing 21 pounds I made my mind up to find another surgeon. Not just because he was making me lose weight before he would do the surgery but because of my transportation issue. So thank you lord I found a surgeon who is willing to do the surgery even though I am as big as I am. The only down side is I had to go through most of the tests again.
Anyways, what I wanted to say was that even though right now it seems that everything is against you and you can see no light at the end of the tunnel, YOU CAN DO IT. After I finally cooled off and looked at the situation I realized that my first surgeon only wanted me to lose the weight for my own health so that I would do better through the surgery. Also I think he wanted me to lose the weight before hand so my liver would shrink and it would be easier for him to do the surgery. (That sounded so dumb...lol) I know right now it seems like it will never happen but it will. Just don't be so hard on yourself and don't give up. I have to tell myself the same thing ever day. I have temptations everyday. For example, my 2 boys love eating sweets, ya know cookies and candy. There are times I just want to take there candy run (actually walk..lol) to a room, lock the door and eat ever single piece but I don't because I know that if I do that will only cause me to put on more weight and I truly believe that if I gain a lot more weight then my surgeon now will tell me I have to lose weight before I can have the surgery.
Basically what I am trying to say is I know where you are right now and I know its hard but believe me, it will be well worth it at the end. I can not believe I have come as far as I have and I thank god every day for my family here with me and my family here. If you need to talk or vent or whatever just send me a message. I am here for ya...Take care!!!

  Hang in there!!
The losing IS to help shrink the liver.... most doctors just want you to try to lose some weight - mine only said 20 pounds and I only lost 16 but he still did the surgery cause I was trying hard!!!
Just keep trying...  come on here and whine and scream if you need to but don't give up - your health is at stake here... we all know how you feel and if food hadn't been our BEST friend we wouln't need the surgery at all...
Remember too that sometimes a couple of pounds of gain is jus****er weight so don't weight every day (ha look who's talking!!).

Good luck...

~Namaste~

I understand your frustration.  This is hard...and one of the hardest parts in the pre-op weight loss because, well, *hello*, if we could lose weight quickly and with great ease, we'd probably not have gotten to the catagory of super-super obesity.  I actually outlawed fast food in the car or any confined space pre-op and immediately post-op because of the temptation.  Perhaps for now, they would be willing to support you by not eating abviously unhealthy items in your presense.  I know few people who wouldn't benefit from a heahier diet.  Please find the courage to talk with them.  It will be hard, but unless they want you to fail, they should want to do whatever they can to support you!

Please don't think that you failed, are doomed to failure, and give up,  You can do this.  It may be helpful to remember that this pre-op diet isn't going to be a struggle forever; the purpose is not to lose all of your weight without surgery; it's to get you to in better shape for surgery in order to lower the surgical risks that are assocaited with operating in high BMI patients.  Your surgeon needs room to maneauer around in your abdomen during a laparoscopic procedure.  Also, your reward for losing the weight pre-op is WLS which will provide you with a tool that will help you to lead a happier, healthier, and longer life.

My final suggestion is to not weigh yourself daily.  Weight, for everyone, can fluctuate wildly from day to day.  Also, if you lost the first 15 via significant restriction, your body reacted by going into starvation mode and is hanging on to every thing that made its way to your stomach.

You are so stressed out that it is little wonder your blood pressure is elevated!  Please, right now, close your eyes and take 10 deep breaths.  Slow down!  Allow the process to unfold naturally.  That's easier said than done, but perhaps just being aware that you're not the only person who's struggled with pre-op diets will help.

I wish you much success on your journey towards a happier, healthier, and longer life.  I also hope that you can learn to let go of the anxiety and fear. Accept that the process will unfold as it should, your body will resond as it should.  Try to just breathe!  These "tricks" won't necessarily eliminate the struggle, but they may help you to deal with those issues better.
