Water intake question

Hi :o)  Still puttering around, now 8 days post-op.  I know I could call my dr or nut about this, but since I'm here..... Does only pure water count towards my 64 oz a day?  Does crystal light or water with broth or water with protein powder count toward it at all?  Man, I need more time in the day to drink!  LOL  I'm sure I will get better at it.  No problems with pain, no problems with nausea, eating fine.... (knocking on wood) but can't drink enough.   Go figure....

Thanks,
Karen

All the things you mentioned counts towards your water,  Each day the water gets easier.  In the beginning the goals are really ideal anounts.  I am glad that you are doing so well.   Loris

Thanks, Loris.  Glad to know it will get easier.  I suppose that's one of the most important things post-op that I've tried to keep in mind, that people told me prior to surgery.  IT WILL GET BETTER.  Whether it was the uncomfortable-ness, the mobility, etc.  Protein seems to be the same way.  First day or so, I was only able to get in like 38g but today I hit 57g.  Of course, being able to add pureed foods helped immensely.

I was told anything that is caffine free counts.

Best wishes to you!

Hi Karen! My fluid goal is at least 48 oz per day and no more than 8 oz per hour. Some times I have a hard time meeting that goal sometimes. Jus****er is difficult for me. But if I have it as tea or a popsicle (I am limited to only 2 of the 20 calorie or less ones per day) or coffee it is fine but jus****er or a really cold drink is difficult.

I was told that the broth, tea, popsicles and SF Carnation Instant Breakfast all count toward my liquid goal.

I found it helped me when I set a timer for 10 minutes and I drank and ounce every ten minutes. That really helped me to make sure I got in all my fluids. As my surgeon's nurse practitioner put it... drinking is a full time job! We get a chuckle over that at me house a lot.

Yes it will get better! Each day!

Thanks, everyone.  This is all good news as plain water is hard for me too for some reason, although I make sure I get a decent amount.  That is my next target to work on.  Protein I think I have a pretty good handle on.  Today I got in 98g, which is awesome so far for me (at this early stage).

Yay, us!  :o)
