Hi everyone,

My first time posting on this forum.  I am having VSG on Feb 27th with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico.  I have posted on other forums but haven't had a lot of response.  I have to do my pre-op clear liquid diet for three weeks.  I started on the 6th.  I am sad I have only lost two pounds so far.  The Dr. didn't tell me I had to lose weight but I am worried that this may be a sign of what is to come.  How can I have not lost any weight when I have only had clear liquid for five days!!!!!

Hi and welcome.  Please don't get discouraged.  You are probably retaining fluids.  One day you will probably see a big drop on the scales.  Please stick around.  This is a helpful and friendly board.  Loris  :)

Are you drinking enough? If not, your body will try to hold on to the liquid you do give it.

First, WELCOME!  Glad to have you here.

Second, you might be holding onto the water for now.  Your body will adjust to all of this, but it will take time.  Even though you are on clear liquids, see if you can add some of the clear liquid protein drinks as well to your current intake, and also make sure if you are using bullion or chi****n broth to get the low sodium ones.  My guess is that in a few more days, you will be peeing up a storm and dropping all the excess water that you are holding.

Hang in there - I was a slower loser too, especially for my weight.  I HAD to include exercise to keep my metobolic rate up and going. Make sure you are doing some exercise each day to boost your metobolism.  You can get an idea of my weight loss by clicking on my ticker, and viewing all data.  It wasn't as fast as some, and by the time I hit the 8 to 9 month stage, it was pretty slow.  Just make sure to know that this can happen.  It means that you will need to be diligent on food choices, and you neeed to continually add activity.

Hugs,

Welcome to you!!!  What an exciting time.  The liquid diet sucks but you can do it!

Don't be a slave to the scale and don't weight yourself every day. We tend to go up and down daily.

Your body is going through quite a bit, trying to figure out what your doing to it, so it's holding on to all it can right now. Give it time.

Best wishes to you as you begin your journey!

I was also a slow user on my preopt diet, I had only lost about 10 pounds for the entire time.

But as long as you do what the doctor says, you know you will be ok.

Had RNY on 8/8/2012- revision from Gastric sleeve in 12/2008-

OMG!  You have to be on a liquid diet for 3 weeks? What are you living on? Broths, and protein drinks? Smoothies? Yogurts & jello? Is it hard? Im fairly new to all this yet. I go in for orientaion March 4th, so, even though its just the beginning 4 me Im still pretty excited.

                                                                                                  All the best!

Yes a liquid diet for three weeks.  It is because of my current weight which is 290.  I have been living on what you have listed above except for smooties and yogurts.  I can not have them.  Gosh what a treat they would be about right now.  I only have two weeks left to go.  You will find that every doctor is different though.  Some people don't even have to do a pre-op diet.  Welcome and good luck in your journey...
