Renovation photos just as promised
Theatre Renovation photos...I love my job!
This is at the top of the stage. S = Saenger Theatre
All of the colors used to be tan and taupe for the last 40 years. The paint was scraped off and analyzed to get the original historic colors. It's been a long time since there was a cloud mural in the Saenger. BTW this is the ceiling.
King Neptune! He's on the ceiling as well. All of these colors used to be faded and now are so beautiful.
Another detailed architectural feature on the ceiling.
Do you know more about it? We tried and tried to find out what happened to the Nola Saenger to no avail. I know they had removed the seats to get ready for some changes and then Katrina hit, but that's all I know. It's a beautiful theatre too and I still remember the starry sky, the beautiful chandelier, and the statues. It's so sad.
Someone who loves the arts will step up once the economy gets better. We really could have had better timing for the theatre to be closed for renovations.

Well, the city has gotten involved so it may 2020 before anything is done. Apparently the city can apply for grants to have it restored and then once restored the operating company will run things again for the city. If you ask me it is too much red tape for any major progress. So now it sits and waits in ruin which is very sad.
Actually they had completely renovated it right before Katrina hit. So it is double sad that it was ready to go and now is in such deplorable condition.
