Hi Everyone!

I am nervous that I do not have a pre-op diet other than to continue to do what I have been doing since I saw the nutritionist. (which has me maintaining not loosing ..... ) I will be on a full liquid diet the day before but that is it.... Is that usual? I read that some were on liquids for one or two weeks! Does anyone know what the difference would be?

I am suddenly feeling like I should be doing something more....

I so want to do everything right! I don't want to mess anyting up!

My doctor just had me on a high protein, low fat diet before surgery. I did on my own try to avoid all fatty foods and limited carbohydrates before that. I did well with no other diet changes up until a week before surgery when I went on liquid protein shakes for the week. I understand that a low fat and low carbohydrate diet helps shrink the liver and that makes it easier for the surgeon to perform the operation through laproscopy.

Every surgeon is different.  Don't torture yourself with a pre-op liquid diet if that is not required.  As long as you are doing what YOUR surgeon requires then you are doing enough.

I totally agree!  Your surgeon will have you do what is required.  Mine only had me do the 24 hour liquid diet as well.  Don't sweat it.  Just follow what your surgeon says and you will be fine.  You will see so many variances on here but its always important, when in doubt, to go with your own surgeon or NUT's advice.

Best Wishes!!!

Huge hugs,
Tracy

I only had two days of liquids pre op.   I  was on South Beach before that,  you'll be fine

Start: 487 lbs (8/07) Lost 81 lbs pre op on South Beach. 406 lbs at surgery (6/08). 179 post op, by 2011. I  lost 308 lbs. Gained 98 while pregnant (2012-13) lost all but 25. My goal is to be 179 again!
