Re-Thinking VSG
You just keep on pedaling. You have NOTHING to back up your assertions about the greatness of the VSG because nothing exists yet. It's really that simple. So you might as well quit the trumpeting about "making informed decisions" and about how great your VSG is, because you have NOTHING to back it up YET, except the fear-mongering about malabsorption.
To discuss the malabsorptive feature of all bypass, including, DS, is not fear mongering; it's a presentation of fact. Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the concept of presenting *all* available evidence, whether positive or negative, so that people can choose wisely. I'm sorry that you feel honest discussions about the realities of life after WLS, ranging from nutrition, vitamin & mineral supplementation of different procedures, to bathroom habits, upsetting.
And, for me, yes, the VSG is great! However, I know that you don't really want to hear about any non-DS related success and are barely capable of hiding a smug smile of contempt. I shall respond to you in the manner that you respond to most non-DS WLS post-ops: Please feel free to grab your can of air freshener and go back to watching Oprah. Perhaps if we knew each other irl, I could gift you with Flat-D, a Flatulence Deodorizer that is an activated charcola pad worn beneath your underwear. No need to thank me for my generosity; I think it's important to support *friends* like you who *support* me in the same manner.
Amy

the ability of DS post ops to eat 3,000 calories daily and maintain weight loss without exercise. If a person chooses to have DS so that they can eat whatever they want with little restriction, and do it all while sitting on a couch watching television engulfed in a cloud of noxious fumes emanating from their own ass, more power to them.
I knew that it was only a matter of time before your stooped to that level, Amy. Touting medical research when it suits your needs, but pulling out BS myth about DS patients -- classy move.
I'm tired of playing with you. You're not even 3 months post-op. You will NOT lose all of your EWL, I can guarantee it. I'll even add to that that whatever weight you get down to, you will not be able to maintain it. See, we share the same stomach. If we can consume 3000 calories per day (DianaCox is 5.5 years post-op), you will be able to. Oh, that's right, your new tummy and lack of ghrelin will STOP you from wanting to eat -- it hasn't for any of us further out DS vets that have the same tummy as you, but you're special. See Amy, you gave yourself a nice easy restrictive diet, good for you. How many times did that work for you pre-op in keeping your weight off? Yep, none. Won't work this time either. But enjoy your fairy tale while it lasts.
Please, please, stick around OH. I can't wait to see where you are one year from now. Fat & stubborn or seeking a revision to a DS?
So enjoy staying fat. Since you can't commit to taking supplements to offset restriction (I take less pills per day over one year post-op than I did pre-op BTW), that trade-off must have been the right decision for you. I have a theory about people like you -- you have deep issues with fear of success. You like to be a victim, and have an excuse to fail.
I do hope that we meet IRL sometime. Keep all of your 'stinky' products. I don't stink. I don'****ch Oprah. As a matter of fact, Oprah lives in the same world of denial you do, but I digress. The irony of you combining these things is that when I went with a friend who had VSG when she went to the Oprah show, we ended up in the ER with HER gas pains -- I personally had never experienced anything close to that. Doesn't mean that I couldn't have, just the fact that I hadn't. I also wish her all the success in the world, because I care about her and don't want her to suffer from obesity ever again. The DS was not a medical option for her; had it been she would have gotten it, because it provides the very best chance that you will never face obesity again. She is doing well with the what she could get, but that doesn't mean that she isn't worried about long-term. And, I even managed the 4 hour car ride down & back, and couple hours in the ER without even one fart or ****ting myself! How is that for your theories of my noxious fumes?
You are quite a piece of work, Amy. Lowering yourself to spreading fallacies about the DS usually only reserved for surgeons not talented enough to perform the DS. I love people like you -- so convinced at 2.5 months post-op that you hold ALL the answers that you offer your wealth of knowledge to someone actually looking for the best option to add quality years to their life. Yep, you're class act.

AS FAR AS STOOPING TO ANY LEVEL, I WAS MERELY COMING TO YOURS SO THAT PERHAPS YOU'D UNDERSTAND.
ALSO, WISHING ME HORRIBLE SUCCESS IS VERY CLASSY. I NVER WISHED ANYONE ILL WILL OR AN INABILITY TO LOSE WEIGHT. TO ME, THAT'S VENOMOUS. I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE POINTS REGARDING ONLY THE FACT THAT VSG IS AN OPTION - IT WAS THE DS'ERS WHO JUMPED DOWN MY THROAT AND INSISTED THAT NOT ONLY WOULD I NOT SUCCEED BUT THAT I WAS IGNORANT.
I ALSO FIND IT SOMEWHAT INTERESTING THAT IN THE 3 MONTHS THAT I'VE BEEN COMING TO THE BMI OVER 50 FORUM, I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH VITROLIC SPITEFUL POSTS AS THOSE BY THE DS'ERS IN THIS THREAD. NEITHER HAVE I EVER BEFORE STOPPED TO THE LEVEL OF PERSONAL ATTACKS. THANKS FOR BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN ME!
AND YES, I AM QUITE A PIECE OF WORK. I BELIEVE IN HONESTY, RESEARCH, LOOKING AT BOTH SIDES OF AN ISSUE AND MAKING DECISIONS BASED ON EVIDENCE, THE ADVICE OF PROFESSIONALS, AND THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF A SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL. WHEN ASKED, I OFFER MY OPINION BUT NEVER BEFORE HAVE I SLID DOWN THE WALL OF SHAME AND RESORTED TO NAME CALLING AND HITTING BELOW THE BELT AS I DID IN MY MOST RECENT POST. FOR THAT I AM SORRY. BUT I AM NOT SORRY FOR THE PREVIOUS POSTS IN THIS THREAD WHERE FACTUAL INFORMATION WAS PRESENTED AND SUPPORT OFFERED TO HELP ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL MAKE A DECISION BASED UPON ALL RELEVANT FACTORS.
I AM FINISHED WITH THIS THREAD BUT I WILL NOT BE RUN OUT OF THIS FORUM NO MATTER WHAT NAMES I'M CALLED. FOR NOW, I MUST GO TO THE GYM BECAUSE I CHOSE TO CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE, IN TERMS OF BOTH NUTRITION AND EXERCISE, IN AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE MY PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH.
IN CONTRAST TO YOU, I TRULY DO WISH YOU SUCCESS IN YOUR JOURTNEY TOWARDS A HAPPIER, HEALTHIER, AND LONGER LIFE.
AMY

This insistence that DSers have a superiority complex (with peer-reviewed long-term studies to back up our assertions no less) is really rich coming from VSGers (with no long-term studies to back up their assertions, and so many are already seeking 'part 2' when stuck in obesity hell of restriction only dieting).
Oh well, Oprah is almost on here, and I need to get my gas mask on so that I don't pass out from my noxious fumes coming out of my ass. I hope I can make it through the whole show without ****ting myself.

The other things you posted (including the info from www.dsfacts.com) include a list of "potential" complications/effects. Not a sinlge one of them occurs in the majority (50%+) of DS patients. And many are possible complications from any major abdominal surgery, with the exception of the malabsirption of vitamins, for which the information you posted stated reversals/revisions of the DS are rarely needed to combat.
I'm actually getting my DS done at Johns Hopkins. Part of what I love about the DS is having a fully functioning VSG stomach.

That's not true across the board. A year out from my DS, I take 14 pills.
BEFORE my DS, I needed to take 9 pills a day (4 calciums, one multivitamin, two irons, two potassiums). I may have to add more or subtract more as time goes on, but with this amazing weight loss and the incredibly low regain stats, I am more than happy to do this.
