Need an exercise "nudge"

Alright, my BMI over 50 peeps, I need a nudge.  Those of you who have been around a while know that I used to be a serious gym rat.  Up until early last fall, I had been working out 7-10 hours per week, doing pretty intense cardio, lifting weights, and doing yoga at least once a week.

My exercise routine got "interrupted" by two rounds of plastic surgery, one in October and a second in December.  My plastic surgeon released me to go back to exercising (within reason) about three weeks ago.  I'm feeling good in terms of recovering from my surgery, and I know my body can handle some exercise.

But I can't seem to get myself back to the gym.  I have vague recollections about how good I felt when I was working out so much, but I can't seem to get close enough to that for it to get my butt back to the gym.  So I'm looking for a nudge, a kick in the butt, or someone to tell me just how great they feel after they work out.  Help???

Kellie -

I DREADED going back, but really wanted to after my plastics and complications.  Not gonna lie - at first it was REALLY hard, and I felt WIPED out afterward.  No boost of exercise energy, etc.  BUT after about 3 weeks of forcing myself to go (and it helped that I was paid to be there teaching classes), I LOVED being there again.  It did take about 6 weeks before I didn't feel exhausted each time I taught.  By the beginning of January, I needed to come up with harder and harder stuff to do to push myself.  You will be amazed at how much more you can do without the extra skin on you!  Trust me with that.

So my challenge to you, as I've put in about 9 hrs so far this week, is to workout for me while I'm recoverying from my surgery.  Then, when I'm needing to go back, you can offer me a challenge.

Get out there, make the most of your plastics and show off even more developed muscle under that newly tight skin!  Oh, and if you want even more of a challenge, hire a trainer for 10 hrs of personal time to get back on track!

I double dog dare you!

Hugs,
Jennie

Double dog dare taken on, Jennie!  I might not be able to 9 hours a week right off the bat, but I can commit to getting back into a routine and working my way back up to that.  I love the idea of hiring a trainer, too - I'm somewhat miserly when it comes to money, so would not miss a session if I'd paid for it!

I really do want to rebuild my muscle size, and improve tone/definition before spring, and I've got plenty of time to do it if I start NOW.

I'll keep you posted on how I'm doing -

I think Jennie's got it right on the nail.  When we went to NYC, I didn't do formal exercise while we were there and then it was tough getting back into the rhythm of working out.  I felt like crap. I was sore. And I didn't get the rush that I used to get.

Now, It's been about 4 weeks since I got back in to my routine and I feel fantastic and am scheming on how I can #1 afford a trainer, and #2 afford the time for double workouts 3 days a week.

Make the commitment to yourself to get to the gym and get back in to your routine. We all know that routines are great for WLS patients and a willy-nilly schedule just doesn't cut it and excuses step into the picture as to why you don't work out.

Just think of how much hotter you and your body will look with regular, consistent physical exercise!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Kathy.  It's funny how I know all those things in my head, but still find myself struggling to make the commitment to what I know is so good for me.  But I knew my OH peeps would know just what to say.

So look for me to start posting my exercise in your daily thread again -

Remember how excited you were when you were imagining those toned muscles emerging through your newly reconstructed body?  Don't let those muscles down - they want to show off all those months weeks days hours minutes of hard work!

Thanks, Clinell!  I appreciate the reminder that I had been working very hard toward a specific goal - to have good muscle tone and definition waiting to peek through after I had plastics.  I still want that, and now have to continue working for it!
