Before I start question.
I have my first appointment with the Doctor on Feb 26th. I would like to loose pre surgery weight before I see him to get things rolling for the surgery. I was told to have a slimfast shake for breakfast one for dinner and then a carb free dinner with meat and veggies. If I get hungry later to have 1/2 bananna or lowfat yogurt. Has anyone tried this. Costco has kirckland drinks and Carnation breakfast drinks does these work. Can anyone give me ideas if this worked for you. Or even what you tried. Thanks

I tried to lose a little before surgery as well. My nut just instructed me to have high protein meals, and to cut the breads out. I also stopped drinking pop, that helped a lot, even though I drank diet pop. It will also help if you increase your water intake. I also stopped eating sweets, and was able to drop about 10# prior to my surgery. My surgeon didn't have a specific preop diet like some do, but by eating better I was able to drop some pounds, which in turn helps to shrink your liver which makes it easier for the surgery to be completed. Hope this helps. Good luck with your Dr. appt.

I am currently waiting to submit everything to my insurance and my surgeon has told me to do a low carb high protein diet. He recommended a lean protein diet (4-5 oz per meal) with low carbs (< 50 grams per day) and minimal fats. Not high protein like Atkins. If hungry between meals then have an ounce or 2 of protein. I do a shake for breakfast (EAS CARB CONTROL) and two bottles of water (before lunch). At lunch I eat a lean cuisine meal and then drink two more bottles of water before dinner and then I eat a lean protein at dinner with some veggies. If I get hungry to have a sweet craving I have a sugar free Popsicle. I have cut out all pop and as soon as I get insurance approval i will switch my lunch from a meal to another shake. I have a BMI of 60.9 and I really want to get it to about 58 (or lower) before surgery.
I have been loosing weight since I started this. I have only weighed one time and I lost 6 pounds - it is hard for me to weigh because I am so large most scales do not go up that high. I did just order a scale on line that goes up to 550 (I hope to NEVER outgrow this scale) but I have noticed my clothes fitting me looser.
Good Luck in your journey....

My pre-op diet starts saturday. It is 4 adkins shakes a day and lots of clear fluids. Its only for 10 days though. Since friday (when I met the doctor) I have been just really watching what I eat. Picking small portions and sticking to protien that will fill me up. Trying not to drink with meals. www.fitday.com is great for tracking.
