Has anyone heard of this procedure
I went to ST.E on a referal to see an gyno/oncolgist at the cancer center because i have complex atypical hyperplasia ,and need a hysterectomy.
Well its scheduled for Feb 19th,which is okay but he is going to remove the excess skin on my stomach at the same time.
Great right, yes but it scares me to think about it a skin removal and hysterectomy at the same time its like a 2 for 1 or buy one get one free.
But im wondering if any one has had this done at the same time and how things went.Is it safe.
He said it would take 4-5 hours and im just not sure.
What do you all think....
My surgery date for my gastric bypass is feb 18th ill be out 1 yr.
Ive been reading on the internet everything i can about it..
thanks all

Are you kidding? If someone offered me a tummy tuck, I'd gladly give 'em my uterus. It's not like I'm using it or anything, so I don't really need it.
Seriously, you're already going to be a bit uncomfortable from the hysterectomy, so why not get the tummy tuck and get all the pain out of the way at the same time?

I guess I really lucked out. Before I even had surgery my place pretty much told me (strongly inferred) told me they would find a "medically necessary" way to make the TT happen in a year or two. We are already "documenting" my "discomfort'.
In reality it isn't too bad though.
I think having long time record of stuff like that makes insurance More likely to pay. I would go for it now if it were me, but it's not me...it's you. You gotta go with your heart (and GUT...Silly pun) and do whatever feels right, no matter what we think.

I agree with Stella Blue. Is there a reason that the hysterectomy is being done as open surgery? I had mine done in 1998 vaginally and the recovery time was much shorter. I was back to work in 5 weeks, but other than being tired, could have returned after 3. It is great that you can get this done at the same time as the hysterectomy, but realize they are two big surgeries and make sure you can make/find time to heal from both. Like Stella said, follow your heart..your instincts. You need to do what works best for your situation. Also, realize that hysterectomies change your hormones, which can also affect many other things.
I wish you the best....you will make the right decision...and whatever it is, good luck to you!

I don't think they'd tell you it could be done if it couldn't be done safely. You have complained time and time again about your panni hanging there, looking just awful under your clothes. Maybe this is your chance. Take a leap of faith. Opportunity is knocking.
Maybe you'd feel better about it if you talked to the surgeon again, went over the procedure.
You took a huge step to become healthier by having weight loss surgery! don't chicken out now!
I do strongly believe, however, that you need to be comfortable with it if you decide to go with it. Your mental attitude toward surgery is extremely important. I know it's scary but wasn't weight loss surgery scary too?
Think of it as a twofer! You'll be resting up anyway, get a double bang for your buck!
I'd be all over this offer! Good Luck with whatever you decide!

Most plastic surgeons limit total surgery time to eight hours. This surgery will very safely fall into that range. As you posted on another forum the scar is not going to be perfect. Will he show you some before and afters? Do not expect much improvement above your navel. This panni removal will not address this. Many SMO folks have excess skin removed in stages. Later on, you can have a lower body lift if it is in the cards. In the meantime your clothes will fit better and you will be so much more comfortable. 20 pounds removed is a lot and will really impact your life. Good luck, Loris
