Hi All!!  Happy new year!

I am not good to start on protein bars and I am super excited.  I can't stand protein shakes so I hope that I can get a lot more protein in now that I can do bars.

Out of curiosity can you please share some of your favorites and where you get them from.  I was hoping to get some at either sam's or costco because they have the best prices but I saw gnc is having a bogo half off sale.

Thanks for the help!

I really like the wafer bars. I use "POWER CRUNCH" brand. 14 gms protein and low in sugar. They come in vanilla, cookies and cream, choco PB, & Chocolate. I get mine at the grocery store (Wegmans) for $ 1.29 each. When they go on sale I get a ton! They keep forever. I like these because hey are light and crispy and don't get stuck like the chewier candy bar type bars. I eat 1/2 of one at a time

I also like the power crunch bars in terms of taste, but I have problems with them settling in my tummy. The first few times were fine but then I kept getting sick so I stopped them.

They don't do much for me personally.  Just make sure you pay attention to sugar alcohols, in addition to regular sugar, if you have a tendency to dump.

Many of the Atkins Advantage bars are decent and available at regular stores. I looks for the ones with the highest fiber. Watch out for sugar alcohols because they cause gas in many people and diarrhea in some people.

My favorite bar is from Zone Perfect - its a dark chocolate bar with almonds. Its barely sweet at all and has no sugar alcohols. I think it has 15 or 13g of protein in a small bar, and my grocery store often has buy two get one free (and they are inexpensive).

I've tried a lot of the popular ones (Oh Yeah is NASTY in my opinion) but I've generally preferred not to eat protein bars. I keep a box around, usually granola from Atkins or the Zone Perfect ones - they hold up in a purse or backpack well and I'll have one if I'm really hungry between meals (and water didn't solve it) or if I have to skip a meal. Otherwise I prefer real food.

I have a few I like -

Premier Nutrition Twisted bars, a bit higher in sugar, so I eat it when I'm craving sweets

Metagenics Ultrameal bars - Lemon Zinger or Apple Cinnamon

Power Crunch bars  - cinnamon bun or peanut butter creme (they are even better if eaten frozen)

I love the Atkins Advantage bars and the Think Thin bars, but I am not allowed to have protein bars any more unless I buy only one.  If I buy a box, I find a way to eat them all because they trigger my candy-munching gene.

Oh, and the OH YEAH wafer bars, especially the vanilla cream ones, are pretty good, too.

I have a love/hate relationship with protein bars.

I like to eat one if I'm craving something sweet (which is rare - I was/am always a salt-loving person). But on the whole, I haven't found one that I really, really love.

A while back - in an effort to up my protein - I went to the store and bought one of almost every bar they had to offer. 95% of then were thrown away after the first bite. Gross! Some were so tough that I felt like the more I chewed the bigger it got in my mouth.

Also, I really don't like the carb/sugar content in protein bars either, so if for nothing else - I try to stay away from them for that reason.

I HATE protein drinks (except my Mooptopia), so if I ever find one I like I will probably eat one every other day because at least it will be protein.

Having said all that - the ones that I buy and eat occasionally are the Atkins Advantage ones. Also, some of the Zone ones are good too.

My advice is to just try them all (within sugar content reason so you don't dump) and see what you like and most importantly - what stays down!

I know what you mean about trying to find replacements for the protein drinks. YUK.

The "Oh Yea" bars and the "Larbrada" nut bars from BE( they taste like a payday candy bar.
Bariatriceating.com taste just like candy bars I swear. Some protein bars are horrible. I wish I would have tried these 2 years ago.....they have a good nectar unflavored protein that I put in oatmeal, soups, SF cappichino it is great....
