I wanted to share my story to HELP others.
Well my husband was dx with sleep apnea about 20 years ago.
He had the surgery in the throat and in the nose and since he could not use the machine we were thankful of the surgery helping him so much. For the past few months my husband now 60 was very forgetful ( more than normal) and he could not concentrate and this was starting to bother him. He went to a neurologists and the "Alzheimer's word was tossed around. We were so scared. Well he went for a memory test and the special doc that administered it said that my husbands brain was lacking oxygen. So off to a sleep study and he quit breathing 53 times in 1 hour !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I take sleeping pills now and had not noticed his sleep apnea was so bad again!!! How stupid we were. Now he is on a cpap machine less than a week now and we are praying that his memory problems will be reversed in time.

When I had undiagnosed sleep apnea, I was forgetful, too.  Once I went on CPAP therapy, my memory greatly improved, but I don't think it's where it used to be.  Of course, that could also be a bit age-related, too.  Even so, it's definitely better than it was when I wasn't getting treatment.

Not just dangerous, but deadly. My 21 year old son died from sleep apnea February 6, 2008. He was 6'2" and about 350 pounds so his weight did not help at all. NO other medical conditions, just sleep apnea.
