Lunch Ideas at Work???
Happy New Year Everyone!
I will be going back to work full-time on Monday. I go in about 7am and get home around 8pm each evening. I work for a school and am often on the run. I have made a promise to myself that I will be taking care of me and stopping and having lunch, which I never did in the past. What are some easy protein items you have taken to work? Any tips or suggestions to help me?
I know I will keep a water bottle in hand at all times, as I still struggle to get my water in.
Thanks in advance!
Christa
Christa, I often take RTD protein drinks to work just because I'm lazy. When I take actual food with me, it's often things like cooked shrimp or sliced rare rib eye steak or rotisserie chicken salad from Costco. I don't eat many vegetables any more, it's as if I lost my taste for them once I had WLS.
I have a little lunch box cooler with cold packs that I use for my lunch. It's really easy.

If I remember correctly, you are recently out of surgery. One of the easiest things that I found was to have deli meats on hand. I like the boar's head brand because there is no preservatives. You can also find low sodium varieties too. The little 3 oz cans of tuna were great.
I also had almonds on hand and protein powder ready to make a drink. Now I will do South Beach Diet frozen meals, grilled chicken sandwiches from McD or Wendy's, I also did wendy's chili early out and that was really easy to eat.
The South Beach Diet high protein cereal bars are pretty good too. 10 g protein for about 140 calories. If you keep prepared, you'll do well. You can miss eating meals. Everytime I do it, I regret it.

Happy New Year to you too!
I usually take ham and cheese slices or home made soup or chili. I have also found lunchables by Amour to be pretty good. They have turkey and ham. It comes with the meat, slices of cheese and crackers. The only draw back from them are they also come with a bite size candy bar. I usually give that to one of the girls that I eat lunch with so it hasn't been a problem. I have also taken beef jerkey. I just make sure that it is low in carbs and I try to drink extra water as it can be high in sodium.
Good Luck! I am sure you will do well!

I tend to do the lunch meat thing also.... but to change it up a bit, I buy the deli bologna or ham and have it slice a little thicker, then I just cut it into cubes or strips. I do the same thing with deli cheese. Then I can dip these "sticks" of meat & cheese into a little mustard for some moisture, without adding the carbs. Once in awile I will have few baked wheat thins just to have the crunch with the meat & cheese.
I also try to do a few baggies of these items ahead of time, already pre-measure so I don't have to think about it when I am in a rush to get out the door.
Good luck

P.S. I always carry lots of the individual flavor packets for my water too. I hate drinking plain water at work... it just doesn't taste as good as home.
