hey all!  i just got back from west virginia last night so i thought i would post to you what happened to me over christmas.  this is the first time I have seen my family since last december so it was a pretty good time :)

Well I went home for christmas not knowing what to expect. I almost had an anxiety attack on the way home LOL Well i got mom and dad's on Wednesday and my cousin and her husband was there. they were driving up from tennessee and I walked into the back door and came around the corner. i saw them and they saw me. there was silence LOL

Then all of a sudden my cousin screamed and ran over to me and gave me a hug LOL Then mom was still speechless and she came over and gave me a hug and started to cry in my arms. i said "am I that scary looking to make you cry?" LOL She laughed and said that I looked wonderful. Dad gave me a huge hug with a big grin on his face then followed by my cousin's husband.

None of my family had seen me or pictures of me since last december. Mom and Dad only saw one picture of me since the surgery and that was a month after surgery. so pretty much I had only been feeding them how much i weighed and that was it.

My cousin and her husband took off to my grandmother's house while mom and dad and I sat and drank coffee and talked a bit then we took off for grandma's. We pulled up in grandma's driveway and I hesitated to get out of the car because again....that anxiety thing was happening. Well i got out and helped dad in with the presents and I again was met with silence. At first i don't think they knew who I was and then my aunt (my cousin's mother) screamed followed by my other aunt and then my grandmother. I got hugs from everyone and they were all happy to see much less of me LOL

I'm not going to tell you about the presents I got except for two that I will cherish for the rest of my life. My grandpa isn't doing too well. he's had several strokes and constantly gets pneumonia. I figure this is his last christmas. he and my aunt compiled a little book of memoirs told by him and transcribed by her. these were all stories of different periods in his life. Immediately, all the grandkids including myself started bawling as well as our parents LOL I will find me a glass case to put it in because i don't ever want anything to happen to it. before we got the book, we got a portrait done of my grandparents. i almost started bawling. that will be the last picture of them together and they made it where I can hang it on my fridge. they really know how to reach in and yank your heart out eh? LOL

anyway I spent the next 4 days with mom and dad and got home sunday evening. I hope your christmas was as blessed as mine. it will be one to remember for a long long time.

Your post brought tears to my eyes!! What a wonderful experience! I am sure all of your family is very proud of you and glad that you have taken control of your weight issues.

And I love what your grandparents did! I wish my grandmother would have done that before her alzheimers set in. There are so many things that she told us that I am sure I have forgotten as well.

I had to remember after my mom died that stuff was just that...stuff.  I wanted to hang on to everything, but something kept prompting me and reminding me that I still had my memories and all of her stuff wouldn't bring her back.

What an awesome gift to have those memories for ever and it sounds like you will treasure them!
