I started at 463 pounds. In a wheelchair still but (for other reasons than weight) but doing MUCH better. I will be out of my chair soon hopefully. I can walk now but I need a knee replacement and 2 disks in my neck fixed. I am sooo not looking forward to more surgery but the bottom line for me is I have to so I can get out of this chair permanently. Please read my blog on my profile it might help you. (starts at the bottom of the page) It is everything I have gone through step by painful step. One suggestion I would give you is "After" your Dr releases you to get in a pool just start walking in a pool. Nothing major just walking (as long as your Dr says it is ok to do as well) The water will prevent you from falling and injuring yourself, you start exercising in a way that is good for your body and you will feel allot better when you do. Also if you ask you Dr there is a good chance they can give you a medical referral for PT in a physical therapists office and the can teach and monitor you while you are in the water. That is how I started in the water as well. My insurance has paid for it so far. For my medical issues it is what is appropriate for me. Not necessarily everyone else but you can ask your Dr.  I am sure you have many other medical issues besides your knees. Just keep in touch with your Dr and tell them everything. They really do help or at least have helped me every step of the way.  I had Lapro surgery. I do not have a clue what you are going through with an OPEN one. Keep in touch with the group here. It is a good one and I am sure many have had open procedures. Ask away any questions you might have. This is a good group and welcome.

Well I was 470 and used a wheel chair most places. I have severe arthritis and even have had 2 knee replacements before my WLS. Now I can walk not miles but, we went to 6 flags this summer and i WALKED. Yes I had to rest but there was young people resting with me. That was a lot of walking. We were there for hours.
Please read my profile. Now I am over 2 years out and I stopped loosing at 315lb I have weighed that for over a year. Everyone is different but I think if i could exercise more I'd loose more.
Good LUCK
Pam
