Do you ever feel......
like strangeling the skinny person who only needs to lose 20-30 pounds at MOST is the most interested in your surgery and actaully wants to have the surgery to lose those pounds? And gets all huffy when you explain that you have to be a certain BMI or so many pounds overweight before surgeons will do the surgery? I seriously want to slap some of them. And then there are others when I tell them my goal weight is 200 pounds get all pissy and ask me you ha dthis suurgery why will you still be so fat? I mean damn do the realize that at 200 pounds I will have lost more than half my weight. Would I like too be smaller yeah proably but I am also realistic and realize as big as I am to start there is a good chance I will not see that "perfect" weight for my height. I lost 25 pounds pre-op and have lost 22 pounds post op ( Maybe more I havent weighed in 2 weeks need scales that go that high so maybe a trip to the doctors today) and I can already tell a difference in my energy level, my ability to get up and down and so many other things. Sorry I guess I just needed to rant since reading an email from my ex sister in law! and
In my humble opinion, people who are 20-30 pounds overweight and who have never been super morbidly obese just do not understand where we are coming from. They just literally don't get it, so try not to worry about what she said or any other similar comments you may get along the way.
You know you are making the right decision for your long-term health; if she doesn't understand that, it's her problem not yours. Good luck on your continuing journey -

And then, my brother goes and marries someone worse. The "new one" is 135lbs, 5'7 and knows NOTHING about being overweight. She is very cool and nice but I agree with whoever said - those kind of people really have no idea about having a weight problem.
I probably shouldn't judge people like that, but I've been around too many skinny people in my life to know that they just don't get it. Also, my mom laughs at me because I can tell when a skinny person has a big person in their family. It's the way they act towards you. I call it my "fat radar". My mom thinks it's hysterical, but it's true. I swear I can tell when someone is comfortable around a big person or not.
I hate it when i hear i took the easy way out,oh no i didnt.
This weekend someone said to me i thought you had surgery to make you skinny.
After he picked himself up off the ground my reply was no i had it to get healthy (idiot) and i have lost 180 pounds and yes im still fat,but its my problem not yours. He did apologize.
My sons gfriend is probaley 25 pounds overweight(she is a doll baby)but she is constantly talking about how fat she is, yesterday i said hello do you know who you are talking to and if you dont wonna look like me do something now while you still can..
congrats and good luck
I have a friend who is upset that I had surgery because her BMI was not high enough to qualify without at least 2 comorbidities. I realized over the weekend that she has not once brought up anything about my surgery unless I mention it first or commented on how I look since surgery (and I have lost 85 lbs so far, so it is noticable). She also was recently dx'd with diabetes (which would give her the 2nd comorbidity) and she told me that she was going to lose her weight the old fashioned way.

I have also chosen not to tell my mother in law about my surgery because I dont want to deal with the constant comments/criticisms from her. She is a smaller woman who is constantly dieting and trying to lose 20-30 pounds.
I also am starting to not tell people how much I have lost because I feel like when I tell them 85 pounds, then they kind of look at me like "uh shouldnt you be skinnier" or I can see them doing the math in their head...

Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.
