Posture

Anyone else losing any thing resembling good posture as they lose weight?

I had heard about hip pain as your center of gravity changes and that hasn't happened yet, but when I sit I find myself hunching my shoulders a lot.

It is especially horrible when I am driving and at work I get sore (between my shoulder blades) from it.

So unless I can convince my Mom to follow me around and yell at me for slouching (like she did when I was a kid)...I need some advice.

Are you sure that your posture is getting worse?   From what I've read and experienced, most of the time your posture improves with weight loss.  You’re used to slouching and now that your body is different, it’s not as comfortable and often painful.  I'm just 2 days from surgery and have lost 35 pounds in the past 6 weeks and my back/neck/shoulders hurt because I am slouching and the only way to make it feel better is to sit up straight.  It takes practice!  I've bought a lumbar roll and cervical pillow that are marvelous and changed the recline & lumbar support on the car seat to a more upright position. Yoga, even modified, will also help.  A good exercise for the entire upper back and neck is to first sit up straight (chin high, tummy in, shoulders slightly back) and take a few deep breaths.  Then raise your shoulders and squeeze towards your ears (like your shrugging your shoulders) for a few seconds and release.  Do that a few times before rolling your shoulders forward and taking a couple of deep breaths.  Finally roll your shoulders back, squeezing them towards each other.  Hold that for a few seconds and then release and repeat a few times.  You can do this for as long as you want, but even one good round will make you feel better.

I hope you can find some relief and congratulations on your weight loss thus far!
