VENTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For my surgeon and insurance I need to show 5 year of being obese.  Well I moved four year ago and my butthole of a former doctor is giving me the run away about my records.  His office told me I would have to drive down to South Florida to pick them up in person as they will not mail or fax them.  However they would fax them to another doctor.  Well I had them sent to my PCP assuming I would get them from my PCP's and hand carry them to my surgeon's office. Well you know the old adage about assuming.  No go the PCPcan't release the records of another doctor.  So I called to today to have them sent to the surgeon.  The records person calls back and says they need a release form.  So I ask them to fax me their release form.  She says it must be a release form from the surgeon.   Call the surgeon office they so no I need the former doctors form.  I call the former doctors office again, after much conversation she faxes me a release form and of course it is the wrong one. So I figure bump it all  and I create one and faxed it to the former doc.  I am about to call them to see if there is a problem with that.

Good luck!!!! Unfortunately I think doctor's are so afraid of being sued if medical information gets in the wrong hands that they go to extremes!!!

I had a problem very similar to this.  My PCP would not send my chart to the surgeons office.  I had done the 6 months of diet monitoring and all she had to do was to put the letter together and send it.  It took me 6 weeks to get it.  I finally got on the government web site about HIPPA, it is actually your right to have access to your medical records.  I actually threatend the PCP's office about filing a HIPPA violation.  I had what I needed the next day!!!!

Thanks  for all the positive vibes.  I call the office and the lady I needed to speak with was on a call I gave the receptionist my number to call back at 4:20.  Needless to say I did not get a return call so I am thinking next Friday i WILL stop by on my way to my mom's for Thanksgiving.  It will not be pretty.......I may need to start a bail fund..

BBB-I had a similar difficulty. I was so frustrated that I got in my car and drove hours, walked into my old PCP's office, got copies of all my records , and hand carried my records to the surgeon. It wasn't that they were "unwilling", (or so they said), but it was several weeks, and the surgeon's office never was sent the info they needed. GRRRR!!! Good luck to you on your journey. I called my former doctors office today and the records lady said that they were faxed this morning to the surgeons office.  The surgery coordinator is out until tomorrow so I will confirm with her in the a.m. I just wanted to take the time to say thank you to all *****sponded as I am a newbie and a lurker.  I love this site, I spend hours reading your posts and it really encourages me to have other people to lean on as we go through this wls journey.  So a BIG  to all.
