The coolest part is that I'm finally reclaiming fridge space by using the pears. I had a HUGE shelf full of Sechel pears from our tree in the front yard. Clay takes most of the to the food bank, but he stashes away as many as he can.
I had never heard of Sechels until I was in my 20s. My ex used to rave about the tree they used to have at his grandmas house in Blair Co, PA. We always brought some home if we visited in the fall.
So after I moved out to the wilds of Oregon, Clay wanted to plant some fruit, so that was one of our choices. The Willamette Valley is known for it's fruit. My area used to be cherries and hops, but most of the cherries have given way to grass farms - sod & seed growers. I bet it soon goes back to veggies.
