newbie here
It is very important to do your walking, even if it is slowing. I am 5 weeks out and have lost 53 pounds already (since the start of my 2 week pre-op diet). I am amazed at how much losing that little bit helped with my walking!!

You can get your BMI calculated here: www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/information/post+op+planne r.php
Some like to track BMI, some do pounds, many do both.
Don't forget to take pre-op pics and measurements. I was too carmera shy, but now I wish I had a good photo of me at my highest weight.
Welcome, I am 53 tomorrow (happy birthday to me). I had the surgery 8/25/08. I already feel so much better and down 55 lbs that includes the 2 week diet before surgery.
Before surgery I had all I could do to go to the grocery store and shop, I would use the cart as my crutch, and also talk my husband into going in while I waited in the car reading a book. Now I shop often, and even been going to the mall again, I told my husband I am just trying to stimulate the economy.

Good Luck and what a journey you have.

I was 406 at my op and was walking about 50 feet at a time without having to sit and rest. I was 487 at my highest and couldn't go anywhere without my walker (with a seat) and that thing was a pain in the a$$!!! I got so sweaty just pushing it that I didn't even want to use it much. I had to sit down twice on the way to the 15th floor bariatric program at Buffalo Ganeral. It was awful. You will get your mobility back so fast post op. It was the 1st change I noticed. I walk great now. I can shop at stores without scooter carts and it's so fun! I "trained" by going to a park with LOTS of benches and walking bench to bench early in the am when no one was there. Also, just try to walk around the house more than you normally would. Those little movements really add up! You will do great and be walking all over the place so soon :)
Let us know how it goes!
