I had originally want the lap band but was told that the bypass would be better because of my BMI, 70.  Has anyone chose to have lap band with such a high BMI and if so how do you feel about your decision.
thanks

Sorry I dont know of anyone. You may want to ask on the Lap band board as well.

There are other options too though. You may want to look into the DS or the VSG.

Good luck with your decision!

I agree with Kelly.  Look into the DS.  It has the best weight loss results long term for people with High BMI's.  Check out duodenalswitch.com and dsfacts.com  also come to the duodenal switch forum here on OH.  There is a lot of statistical information out there to prove that the DS will give you the best long term results especially with a starting BMI over 50.  If you have questions feel free to contact me.

Hi there,

When I did my research awhile ago... it seemed like the lap band was not a good choice if you had a lot more than 100# to lose.  I'm not saying its not possible, but it will take a lot longer, and probably a lot harder to get there.

The other WLS all have there pros & cons... do the research and pick which one is right for you.  I chose the RNY because it was the best decision for me.  I needed the restriction from sweets/sugars that comes with the RNY.  Do your research, talk to people with each of the surgeries, talk with your surgeon, and make the decision that is best for you.

If you have any more questions about the RNY, I would be glad to give you my input.

Good luck to you...

Caroline
