My heart goes out to you and your mom...
That is so sweet what she said...
My mom was told 4yrs ago that she had 3-6 months to live and she is still here with us...
My hubby and i had a conversation  a few years ago wether we would want to go quickly or would we want time to say goodbye to our love ones...
When i had my blood clot scare i was afraid i wasnt gonna get to tell everyone how much i loved them,so i do it alot now...
Please give your mom a hugg for me and tell her we are thinking about her..
I would love to send her a card.
If its okay please pm me the address.
Many huggs to you..

Big Hugs!! to your entire family.  I hope I am not out of place by making a suggestion.... for your niece it might be nice to find a support group, or someone she can talk to... Kids deal with cancer/illnesses so differently...I know the cancer society has kid friendly stuff, to help tell them about the illness.  Enjoy that upcoming family trip!!!
MY JOURNEY BEGINS...

When my mother was diagnosed with liver cancer that had spread to her lungs, she asked the oncologist about chemo.  He was upfront with her and told her it would not change the outcome, just delay it a few months and the side effects from the chemo just weren't worth it in her case.  My mother did not suffer at all, and I think the only reason she passed so quickly was that she decided it was time.  She was stubborn enough that she'd have lived years had she the will to do so.

Another friend of mine who had Stage 4 lung cancer did chemo and radiation because she was so desperate to keep living, and then later regretted it because her last months weren't what she expected.  She was sick and weak.

I will keep thinking good thoughts for your mom, and you make sure she thinks them, too.  There is a lot to be said about positive thinking, I know in my own health situations it has worked for me.

Big hugs,
Kix

Jan, there are no words.  I am truly sorry.  I have shared with you that I have lost both my parents to cancer and it is a difficult road, but you will all know what is right for you to do.  THe doctor is right...do everything that your mom wants to do.  One thing that we did was have my parents write letters to us.  They are really special to me as now I can look at them and read their thoughts to me.  Just a thought.  I will continue to pray for your mother and you...especially for peace while you are making these difficult decisions.
