Hi everyone!!!  I am five months out and had to do the six month diet required by insurance.  I have only lost a couple of pounds.  To be honest I havent really tried as hard as I have inb the past.  I did not have to loose a certain ammount of weight so It's mainly mental.

Did any of you not have to loose weight is that normal?  Right now I'm at 337 pounds not sure if this is normal?

My friend had the same surgeon and was around 250 lbs she lost about three and gained them back right before surgery.

I was asked by my surgeon to lose 10 pounds before surgery to shrink my liver and I am very close in size to you as I started at 343 pounds.

Hi Candace,

I was not required to lose any of my weight, but it was recommended.  My surgeon specialized in laproscopic but because I didn't really try hard to lose any weight I had to have open surgery, which carries it's own set of problems.  I came through the surgery with no problems, however, the more you lose pre-surgery the easier the surgery will be on the surgeon and the better for you.  Even if you have only lost 10 lbs. that is a loss and your liver and other internal organs will show the difference.  I was 51 at the time of my surgery and weighed in at 460 lb.s

I wasn't told to lose a certain amount of weight, but they said it's a good idea to start making better choices before surgery.  Also anything you lose before helps your liver and other organs shrink, making the surgery easier, (for you adn the surgeon).  I lost about 10# before surgery, and the surgeon was totally ok with that.  I basically tried to teach myself to eat better.  I quit the pop, cut out the sweets and really backed off the breads & pastas.  I was 344# the morning of surgery.

Good luck to you
