Hi all,  I had gastric bypass surgery 2 weeks ago.  I can easily eat 1 and a half cups of food at each meal.  I stop then but am not full.  What's happening.  I really shouldn't be able to eat this much should i?  Did he really do the operation?????? lol?????

Wow that is hard to believe. I could only eat like 1 Tablespoon when I first came home for weeks. My first Thanksgiving which was 2 months after my surgery I could hardly eat 3 Tablespoons. I would call the doctor and have a lot of questions. I am just now after 2 years eating   1 1/2 cups of some things.
Good luck

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.  Stop eating that much, you may be hurting yourself.  The nerves in your stomach are not yet healed so you are numb in the pouch.   It takes time for them to heal and send you the message you have filled it.  Eat the recommended foods and amounts and drink water if you feel like you need more.

You may not get your full feeling back for months. I don't know how large your pouch was made, and I don't know what you are eating at this point but once you are eating solid dense proteins instead of liquid-based foods I have little doubt that you will find that you can't eat that much. Right now the softer items you eat soon after surgery have more of a tendency to slide out of the pouch so it doesn't fill up.

If your doc gave you guidelines on what volumes to eat, follow those instructions closely. Many people report at first that they feel less restriction and then the restriction gets more obvious a few weeks after surgery after the scar tissue has fully developed and they have moved on to denser foods.

I have had this problem, too.  I feel like I can eat more than I should be...not that I haven't overeaten & gotten sick...cuz I have!  Do they have different size pouches? I asked the PA that question at my last check up and she gave me a no answer then talked in circles & gave me a yes answer.  So...I still don't know!

I hope I will get to the point where I can't eat as much since I really worry about this.  After going through everything, I sure don't want to fail. I, too, thought maybe Doc didn't do the surgery!

Anyway, glad to see that I am not alone in this.
