Spanx/Shapewear Question

At the risk of giving you all a good chuckle for the day...here's my burning question about "foundation" garments.

When wearing Spanx or similar garments, do you gather up your tummy area (panni) into a ball shape, thus having a tummy bulge, or do you let the garment "smoosh" you out and down, thus having (at least for me) this big pancake that hangs down too far look?

Or my all time favorite (NOT!) the panty shapers that are cut too high and my panni leaks out and I end up with these two bulges at the bottom of my tummy area.  I end up sneaking around to tuck in my bulges into my panties! Eeegads!

Looking forward to any responses you may want to share.

sorry i  can't help you much there, i havent had the experience yet but i hear they are awful to get into, even for skinnier people.  i'm gonna definitely give them a try when i get a little more weight off.

Personally I just let the garment do it's thing.. Fortunately for my i don't have any bulges that hang below my tummy area.. if I did I think I would do the lift thing and make a stomach bulge. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I prefer the lift method for the tummy. My panni is not very large in comparison to some do it doesn't bulge under the shaper, but I have huge hips so I like the shapers that are like bike shorts - all the way from below the boobs to the knees. The ones like panties just give me an ugly line where my hips bulge out even farther.

I'm with Jen on the style.  I always have some kind of shaper on now and it really depends on the shirt.  I do wear brief type panties with spandex in them.  Nothing spills out on the bottom of them, but I know what you mean!  I've had that happen and it's usually because it's the wrong size or youve got a high cut version.   Always look for the briefs.

when I have a knit shirt on, I wear the bike pants type thing from under boobs to mid thigh to control the thunder thighs!  But to put them on, I just pull them up.  I'd rather have the smooshed look than the ball look.

Ahhhh...I think I'm seeing another joy of pregnancy and motherhood! When I was pregnant with Emily, I never really looked like I was pregnant until I was like 8 months! I just looked like I was gaining a bunch of weight in my mid-section. BUT...when I did show, my baby bump was up by my ribs and my panni just fell lower and lower.

I do look for briefs in panties...but as Dolly Parton says, this is what happens when you try to stuff 25 lbs of mud in a 5 lb sack! Ugh!!!!!!!!

Jana <---- who prefers the 'rounded' look.  After all, I AM in shape...round is a shape, right?

I haven't yet looked into shapwear, but I noticed a similar issue with my boobs. When first put on my bra this morning, they wanted to "fold". OK, I know they are pendulous and getting more of the beanbag in a tube sock look, but folding - geez. In this case I went for the smoosh effect.
