Almost 8 months out.... having pain and nausea while eating and drinking

Looking for some advice. I've already made an appt for my primary care and gastroenterologist but I'm hoping the pain is not related to any condition other than the fact I had my insides rerouted.

Here is the problem. the last two weeks I am getting very nausous after only eating a small amount of food.  If i stop, it goes away after about 3-4 minutes and then I can continue eating. I'm also having pain while drinking as well. I haven't changed anything. Someone suggested it might be an ulcer developing so that is why i made those appointments.  Yesterday I ate very slowly (one bite every minute) and that seemed to keep the pain to a minimum but still having some discomfort that didn't used to be there. I also am noticing that there are times that I am not in pain, specifically at night.

Could it just be that my stomach finally has full feeling back and is just telling me to slow down, eat less and chew better? I was one of the lucky or unlucky ones that could eat larger than average amounts after surgery and tolerate everything(all types of protein) though I do dump on high fat and sugar. But normal healthy foods all did fine with me. I remember going out to eat with more than one person and I could eat twice she could without discomfort. It always bothered me that I could eat so much so easily. Maybe things are changing? Is that even possible after so long? Any ideas would be helpful.

Nicole - get them to check your gallbladder as well (sonogram), rapid weight loss causes stones, and i was quite nauseated.  I had mine taken out on Monday.  I hope you are feeling better really soon  lys

It really could be a number of things, from mild to serious. Its good that you are getting it checked out - I'd expect they'll want to do an upper GI series (where you swallow the dye) first, and then possibly an endoscope as well if they suspect an ulcer. Gall stones are certainly a common possibility, as is finally feeling some restriction, or any other number of things like esophageal spasms, etc.

As you know some complications are much more serious than others, so its definitely of utmost importance to be seen anytime your patterns change or you have new symptoms.

I'd put my money on an ulcer.  Let me know if you want to start a betting ring

well i can't get a quick appt with a gastro so i made one with my primary care this friday. I will let you know how that goes. hopefully it won't take forever and lots of money to figure it out.

If I have issues from between the breast and the pelvic area my first call is to my surgeon.

What you have going on could be a number of things. From gallstones to a stricture to who knows what.

Hopefully it all gets figured out first. Glad your going to see the DR.

Feel better soon!

I agree with Jan re: calling your surgeon.
