Calorie Countdown - Friday edition, what are you eating?

I am so tired, I woke up at 4:30 and watched the alarm until 5. I just got back from teaching and I just had NO interest in it whatsoever, plus they were really cranky today. They got their first exams back... yeouch.

Now I have some stupid function to go to from the people who fund me, and a poster presentation for said stupid funciton this afternoon. I had sort of a clash with the vice-director of this program yesterday. I told her I couldn't attend our mandatory meeting because I had to sit in on the class they are forcing me to teach. There is a long back story here and a lot of displeasure and drama regarding her boss, and the dean, and some very angry graduate students. She asked me "so you don't want to come for the first 20 minutes" and I said "No I don't. Are you telling me to?" Straight forward question. Her answer was "well it will be a good idea." Not a straightforward answer. So I say "that's not a yes or no, are you telling me to go to the meeting?" and she still didn't answer me straight. Argh. So I went. And it was a complete waste of time, as always. Funnily though, she came in late and there was only a seat by me and she went and got another chair to sit elsewhere. I guess I didn't make any friends.

I'm ready to quit this program and just teach and be supported by the department. This program is a ridiculous joke. They tell you that you should be done with your PhD in 3 years or you are a loser slacker (the national average is 6.5 years btw). Then they load you up with constant ridiculous obligations on your schedule that take away all of your research time. I'm a little confused, to put it mildly.

Rant over. For now.

B - bacon and egg taquito

L - catered lunch, veggie lasagna and salad - I'll pick because I don't want to get sick as my presentation is after lunch

D - I have no idea. It would be leftover lasagna but apparently I am having that for lunch

Tired? Wow this morning I was at the hospital at 6AM and the nurse said "Are you getting enough rest? You look so much worse then yesterday."  Gee thanks. Then Mom added "yeah, you have really dark circles and they are sunken in." 1/2 hour later the DR walked in and said "Wow, did you spend the night here last night, you looked tired?"  I told them all enough already I get the hint.

My brother just called and said, "If Mom gets to come home, could you go pick her up? I told him I didn't have a choice, I wasn't going to leave her at the hospital or have her take a taxi home. UGH!

I'm doing my best to get on track with eating. Didn't have enough protein yesterday and almost passed out. Blood sugar suddenly dropped to 39 before I realized it.

My rant is now over - thanks if you got through it!

Pre B - SF NF BSC Latte

B - ham, cheese, triscuits

L - Meeting - going out for Dim Sum, so looking forward to steamed shrimp and this yummy dumpling soup they make.

S - ?

D - Rotel Chicken, salad

S -  nothing unless I'm hungry

I hate that! My boss constantly tells me how tired I look, so I'm used to her, but I know its bad when 5 or 6 people in a row say something.

My question is how do they expect you to look? Happy and well-rested isn't really in the cards with the news your family has just gotten!

I can totally understand you being tired, sometimes when I read about what your day is like it makes me tired! ;)

All I can say is Thank God for Ambien - I'm getting 5-6 hours of sleep at night becasue of it!

I take Ambien too. I try not to take it every night but I do rely on it about 4 nights per week, and I sleep 1000% percent better when I take it. Have you noticed your dreams being weirder and more vivid when you don't take it? I don't seem to dream much when I take it but on nights I don't they are insane, vivid, and completely random associations.  I don't recall that happening much before I took Ambien. Oh well, at least I'm not doing any of the crazy things I've read about people doing on Ambien... like buttering and eating cigarettes in the middle of the night!!!

I do have super bizzare dreams, but only when taking ambien. Some are so frightening, and the random weird vivid part is true too.

I don't have any side effects other than if I don't go right to bed after taking it I walk around like a drunken fool, or so my hubby says. I have answered the phone and held conversations a few times only to never remember. Those are the only strange things I've done that I know of.
