Nine Month Check Up
I met with my surgeon and nutritionist on Friday for my nine month check up. I'm officially down 162 lbs from surgery date and they are thrilled. Considering I had my knee replaced six weeks ago, they are amazed that I've continued to lose weight at a steady pace. I told them that they obviously have never been through physical therapy (or is that physical torture???)
The only thing that threw me for a loop is we reassessed my "goal" weight. The surgeon had determined 170 as my goal weight from the very first visit and that's what I've kept in mind all this time. However, the NUT started running numbers and determined between 200 and 223 because if you figure in 15% for excess skin, I'd end up between 170 and 189. She said that if I got down to 170 without considering the extra skin, it would probably be very difficult for me to maintain, which I know would drive me batty.
This sounds weird, but I'm trying to wrap my head around having "only" 55 to 78 more pounds to lose. I've always had more than 100 lbs to lose! Personally I think (and I may change my mind) I really want to see 199 - just to be in the 100's. Vain? Hell, yes! However, I also believe that my body will let me know where it wants to be - when I'm healthy, feeling good, etc. Overall from day one, this journey has been about my health and being grateful to weigh one less pound than I did before and honestly, if I didn't lose another pound, I'd be happy. Does this make any sense?
In any event, life is good. Dh and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary up in Estes Park, Colorado (we were married there.) It was a beautiful weekend; did some hiking, shopped (too much!) and had a great time.
Take Care,
Jana
