I heard a cheap bamboo backscratcher is really useful - but I suppose it depends on how long you end up staying ...

Congratulations on getting your surgery date!  It's very exciting for you!

Don't take too much to the hospital - you're not there too long.  I took sweat pants and a t-shirt to wear so that I was more comfortable walking through the halls.  I also took some shoes that I could easily slip on and off for my walks.  Magazines are better to read than books since your ability to pay attention will be impaired from the pain medications.  A toothbrush and toothpaste helped as well.  Be sure to pack your multivitamin and calcium so that you can continue to take those.

I wish you the best!

I wouldn't even bother to pack a bag.  You can wear the hospital gowns while you are there, wear one tied in back as usual and get a second one to wear kind of like a bathrobe so your nekkid azz doesn't hang out while you're walking down the halls.  The hospital will even give you those ugly booties with the non-skid soles so you don't need to bring slippers.

Chapstick is a good idea because your lips will be dry.  You can bring some bathing wipes to keep yourself minty fresh if you're not up to showering before you go home.  Oh, you might want to bring a minimum of toiletries (the basics, like deoderant, soap, shampoo, and toothbrush/toothpaste).

Other than that, I wouldn't bother with books, etc.  I was in the hospital barely two days, and I spent all that time eating ice chips, then drinking small sips of water, then eating jello, then walking around.  The nurses at my hospital were so evil, it was a real incentive to get up, get moving, and get the H out of there!

Good luck, and we'll make room for you on the Losers' Bench!

Other than minimal toiletries, bring sturdy slip on shoes to walk in.  Slippers or non skid socks were not supportive enough for me to walk in.  If it applies, bring pads in case you get your period.  Many women do when they have surgery.  Wear the loose clothes you wore to the hospital home.  Good luck.  I am excited for you.  Loris

One of the greatest morale boosters for me was my own beautiful gown and robe.  As soon as i got my port out, I showered and put on my satin, floral gown and I floated down the halls on a cloud because I didn't have that ugle hospital gown on.
