Ok the 26th of this month i am 2 yrs out. I started at 470 then lost to 303 now am 313. I can not exercise much because of severe arthritis and fibromyalgia. Since i started 2 years ago in a wheel chair and am able to walk now I am very happy with my success.
yesterday i met with the P.A. for the surgeon that did my surgery. he rather scolded me saying i wa still a real big person and should loose at least 100 lbs more....I know that would be nice but the weight does not fall off now and i am in so much pain to exercise. i do not know if I can loose more. How upset should i be and should I try to get myself motivated at 61 and happy?????

Have you tried water aerobics?  They have classes tailored for those with pain and limited mobility at the Y.  If you feel this much better now, think how much better you will feel lighter.  May I suggest that you try working the basics with your tool and see what happens.  You may be amazed.  I feel so much better than I did at 200 pounds!!!  I am still losing at over three years out.  I don't exercise so it is possible.  Good luck, Loris

I too would recommend the water aerobics.  There are also what's called silver sneakers programs at the Y too. It's like chair aerobics.  HOpe that helps.

I agree with getting in the pool.  Even if it is just walking back and forth instead of swimming.  Water classes are wonderful too.  I swim laps and do water aerobics class every week.

Another thought...would your doctor prescribe physical therapy?  I'm in PT since my knee surgery and I LOVE it.  I fiInd it gives me a great work out, it's helping me be stronger and I see the results on the scale.

Good luck!

It is harder to lose if you cannot exercise, simply because exercising burns calories and it helps you create a greater daily calorie deficit.  But I believe that it's possible to lose even if you can't exercise, it just takes longer and you have to be more diligent about your daily nutrition.

Your post doesn't give details about your daily food plan, carb intake, etc., but those are the things you'll need to evaluate and probably change if you want to continue to lose.  You have to decide what you are comfortable doing on a day-to-day basis in terms of monitoring your food, and figure out how that balances with what your weight loss/maintenance goals are.

You have to make the decision that's right for you, based on your needs, wants, and desires.  You have to find a daily food plan that's something you can live with long term, without thinking of yourself as always being on a "diet" and never able to have some of the things you want or like.  It's about finding your own balance, and only you can do that.

I wish you luck on your continuing journey, Pam -

First of all, congratulations on your success so far.  You have lost over 150 pounds and that's great!  Like you said, the quality of your life has already improved to a level that you are happy with.  If this is where you end up - and you're happy with your results - then it's not really that significant of an issue, is it?

Of course, we all can admit that you would probably feel even better if you decided to adjust your lifestyle in order to lose more weight.  I think that others had great exercise ideas - water aerobics (or jus****er walking), chair exercises, physical therapy, the Silver Sneakers program at the Y, and Kix, who's been gone a little while suggests a hand bike of some sort.

You could also work with a nutritionist to modify your eating in a way that promotes better weight loss.

These things are all if you want.  It's your life, your decision.  If you're happy with your current post-surgical results then don't let anyone else try to tell you otherwise!

Thanks everyone. yes last year i did the Y exercises and they helped a lot.We got a 24 ft above ground pool that i was in a lot this summer. i will so miss it this winter. the only thing with the Y is I have to drive 25 miles 1 way and the whole thing is like almost 3 hours and I work 3 days a week and can't have that much time. But I think i will see about started with that walking tape again.
