Type of surgery question
Well, I am not going to tell you that you made a bad decision. However, I think there are much better options for people who have a high BMI such as the people on this forum. WIth the band you lose much more slowly. There have been people who have been successful and you may be one of them! SO make the most of the surgery that you have chosen! Work your tool to the best of your ability. If there is a time in your future where the band fails worry about it then, but right now concentrate your efforts on making your tool work. That is what your options are right now.
Plus right now I think it is a normal thing to think that you have made a bad choice. I had the DS two weeks ago and even I wonder what I have done to myself sometimes. ALthough I know in my heart I have made the right choice for myself. This time will pass and you will be just fine.
Good Luck.

jennifer,
I know it doesn't seem like it at 2wks out, but you did indeed make a very good choice. You'll be loving life in the next few months. The recovery part is the worst part and learning what works and doesn't work.

I think that any weight loss program works as well as you want to work it. I have a friend that was 293 and she's lost over 100 pounds with the band. She exercises every day and looks fantastic. RNY does help some because of the malabsorption.
You can do this. Follow the rules your doc set out for you and exercise, exercise, exercise. That will make a huge difference.

I think the band is just another tool. All tools can work, but all also require work on our part as well. Your losses may be more gradual, but that may help you by preventing hair loss. Just don't get bummed if DSers or RNYers lose faster - they just have a different tool.
For years I wanted the weight fairy to come along with her wand an zap me down to my GW. I guess I'm dense, but it wasn't until about 9 months ago that I realized that *I* have to be the one to make it happen. Look at the profiles of folks farther out - the ride differs for each of us. (Some get the E-ticket ride)
Each of our journeys is unique. No tool is bad.

Well said Patty!! I chose for the RNY but almost went with the band. I paid myself so the band was much cheaper but I decided in the long run that RNY was the best choice for me. The band is easier and its adjustable so don't doubt your choice. We all have the same goal to reach but take different routes to get there. The destination is all that matters. Best of luck to you!
