Some WOW moments and a question.

Good morning everyone!

I wanted to share a few WOW moments with everyone - I'm excited about them and usually I'm always chatting about the mental struggles I've been having so I wanted to be sure you could all see that I get happy too!

Last week DH bought me a couple of watches so while I was trying to figure out how many links to remove from each of them I tried to wrap my fingers around my wrists - something that I tried before surgery and couldn't do.  Well, now I can!  Not that it's a useful thing or anything - but it's still exciting!

My clothes are *really* starting to get too big.  Last week I was wearing a pair of pants that I have NO idea how they stayed on all day.  I think if I would have walked any distance in them that they would have fallen off for sure.  So, I have a TON of clothes in smaller sizes that I kept as I gained the weight and for months I've been working on organizing them into bins of different sizes.  I decided to go into the bins and try to assemble a fall wardrobe for myself.  Yesterday I was wearing pants that were too tight for me pre-surgery and now are getting to be too big (not falling off big, but baggy).  I pulled the first pair of jeans from the bin and noticed that they were 2 sizes smaller than the pants that I was wearing.  I was like, "They won't fit, but let's see how close they come" as I was going to make new bins of close that will fit "soon" or "somewhat soon", etc.  Well, they fit!!!  They were from some catalog that makes up its own sizes (as were my current pair) so I have no idea what size they were - but later in the bin I found some 36s and they also fit!  So, I'm guessing that I'm around a size 36 in pants and I was in a 40/42.  People have been telling me for a long time that my pants were too big and I thought they were a bit baggy, but nothing really sunk in than to see I was comfortable in pants that were 2-3 sizes smaller than what I thought I wore!  I'm very happy to be getting closer to sizes that I might have a small selection of clothes available to me rather than just having to take the few items that are made in my size.  And to even imagine that I'm within a few sizes of being able to shop in a store!!!!  The idea makes me giddy - maybe by Christmas!

OK, anyway, on to my question.  I have a hypothesis, but I can't really test it as I had to put my scale away for a while before I seriously lost even more perspective on why I had this surgery.  BUT, I think that I am back in a streak of losing weight - it seems I am definately one of those people that will lose nothing for weeks and then all the sudden lose a bunch.  I think I'm back in the losing phase again.  In any case, the last couple of losing phases I have been in - it seems that I have to go to the bathroom a LOT.  Is this normal?  I wonder if my body is still so freaked out that it holds on to a bunch of water as long as it can and then it just releases it all at once?  Does that make any sense?

Thanks for listening and I appreciate any feedback on the question!  Enjoy your first week of fall!

Congratulations on your wow moments, and yes that's what happens to me. I lose for about a week per month, usually right after my surgery anniversary, and I can tell I'm going to lose because I get very sleepy and usually need naps that week, very thirsty, and I pee much much more often.

Congrats on all your achievements.  I don't notice any difference in my bathroom visits either way.

Going shopping in your own closet ROCKS!! I recently found almost a whole new wordrobe in mine as well. I can wear skirts and dresses again as I dont have to wear tennies all the time and can wear normal "girl" shoes since the weight loss.  Congrats on the loss! Remember its more about how you feel than the number on the scale and it sounds like you feel GREAT!!

I am soooo happy for you!!  That is a great WOW moment!  I can't quite do that yet! Almost!
Little did you know all this time the scale wasn't moving, you were losing inches! ? ! Throw out or give away those baggy clothes, you won't need them anymore!

Keep your chin up and keep posting!

I'm only six weeks out, I haven't noticed any patterns yet!

Well, if you are wearing a 36 you can shop in a store....Catherine's Plus Sizes.  I shop there all the time.  Well, now I am not buying anything until I lose to the next sizes down.  You have a wonderful wow.  I cannot wait to go shopping in my own closet!  FUN!

The bathroom thing....well, I have the DS so I am a little different.  People with the DS say that when you are pooping you are losing,  So, maybe there is something with you visiting the bathroom a lot during your losing phase even if it is just peeing ou****er.....hmmm   It is something to ponder.

I was so focused on the celebration of shopping in our closets (I have LOTS of size ranges in mine) that I missed the bathroom thing.

On Medifast (which I'm told puts you into a mild state of ketosis), the more water I drink, the more weight I seem to pee away. I like to think of it as the protein breaks down the fat and the water washes it away.

Probably totally unscientific, but it sounds similar to the RNY effect that some of you are seeing.

I, too, had to put my scale away before I lost perspective on why I had this surgery. I actually bought a new scale from Bed, Bath & Beyond and returned it because it was causing me so much grief. Once I could eat normal food I felt like my weight loss stalled quite a bit. It was making me crazy, so I stopped weighing myself and had to remain calm and realize that this is going to take time. So I understand completely what you're going through there.

Also, I'm still wearing my same clothes I was wearing pre-surgery, but they are really loose. Also, I can wear a few more things from my closet that I couldn't fit into pre-surgery. I was complaining to my mother the other day how I didn't feel like I was changing sizes quickly enough. It's easier when you're 300lbs or so and you can drop 10 sizes with 100lbs (or about that much). When you're over 400lbs (like I was), it's hard to even find sizes that fit so you sort of lose sizing options and it takes longer to drop the sizes. Or it has for me.

Anyway - congrats on the WOW moments. There is nothing like it!

That's GREAT !        :)  :)  :)  I know what you mean about clothes getting too big.  My 5x nightgowns fall off one shoulder now, YAY!  I bought some 3x ones at Kmart on clearance ($6 bucks ea! wow!) and they fit me now. Not loose but they fit!  Nightgowns always run bigger.  I am really big in the stomach though so most skirts and fitted dresses from a store wouldn't fit yet.  The LB catalog is so expensive with the shipping and all.  I did find a cute  jumper dress for like 20 bucks in Woman Within.  I think I'll take a chance and order it in a 28.  I wanted to wear it for Xmas.  It's a army green twill.   I can't wait to be able to get a dress or new skirt at CATHERINES!   We have one here too.

We'ere getting there guys!  :)

Start: 487 lbs (8/07) Lost 81 lbs pre op on South Beach. 406 lbs at surgery (6/08). 179 post op, by 2011. I  lost 308 lbs. Gained 98 while pregnant (2012-13) lost all but 25. My goal is to be 179 again!
