I know I will have to once I have surgery.  Also my suregon puts those of us who still have our gallbladder on Actigall  for 6 months to prevent gallstones.

Most people are on some kind of acid reducer for months after surgery. I was on some minty powder for the first month (disgusting) and then prilosec for 2 more months. Having less acid around helps your stomachs to heal.

The only problem with acid reducers is that they also reduce the absorption of some vitamins, so we can't stay on them indefinitely unless we have a really serious ulcer issue that outweighs the vitamin loss.

I was sent home with a script for PrevAcid. I have been taking it since I had my surgery and there are two refills on my script, so I will be taking it for at least 3 months.

I was supposed to take prilosec, but was a bad, non-compliant patient.
