Hi all
I am now 4 days post op.  I've been home for 2 day.  I had the RNY.  Since I got home I've had diarrhea.  I called my nurse and she said that was normal since only fluids are going in then that's what comes out.  I could live with that but today it's gotten doubly worse and I'm have abdominal cramps with it.  I'm going almost every 20 minutes and I'm pretty miserable.  My whole experience has been wonderful with minimal pain.  I'm surprised because i always hear it feels like being hit by a truck.  i was excited and thought the worst was over but this is pretty miserable.  any similar experiences or advice?
thanks

I didn't have a similar experience, but its POSSIBLE you picked a bug too. You were just in a hospital afterall. Just be CAREFUL not to get dehydrated, its so easy to end up back in the hospital, on fluids, as a new pre-op.  If you are having it every 20 minutes, you'll have to be drinking CONSTANTLY to keep up. You probably need some electrolytes too, consider some unflavored pedialyte or the new crystal light that has electrolytes. And if the diarrhea becomes very dark colored or tarry go to the hospital immediately.

That's normal.  things will get better.  The pain is probably from surgical gas.  Take your temp just to be sure you're not running a fever or anything and then just grab a magazine and camp out in the bathroom  :)

It's BAD at 1st.  In a week you will feel mnore normal.  Hang in there  :)  :)  :)

I had a little diarrhea - call your Dr. and tell them that it has increased intensity.  You may need to return to get IV fluids, it may not be normal, and/or they may OK you to take immodium.  The minute I got permission to take immodium the diarrhea stopped on its own.  Go figure.

Well, its a little better today.  It's not full liquid anymore, it's more like coffee grounds but light in color.  The cramping has almost stopped and not as intense.  I'm gonna call my doctor in the morning anyway just to be safe.  Thank you all for your advice!
