I had my DS surgery on the 19th and all went well.  I am back now and hope to post more instead of lurking so much......

So glad to hear it went well. How are you recuperating? Were they able to do it lap? Are you on softies?

Sorry to be so nosy - the DS intrigues me (and the ppl on the DS board are a hoot). Unfortunately the DS is not covered by my insurance. I'll be following your progress.

I am doing very well. In fact I am surprised at how well I am doing.  I went to a surgeon who does not perform the procedure lap.  This was fine with me.  I thought that it was safer for me at my weight--less chance of complications IMO.  I am on regular food....whatever sounds good I eat it as long as it is protein.

The DS could be covered by your insurance...it is just how much you are willing to fight for it.  Medicare covers it and that really helps so other insurance companies now have found that they can no longer always win appeals.  Keep fighting for what you want....the DS truly does have the best results for weight loss and keeping it off long term.  Especially in people with BMI over 50.

Welcome Home!  Welcome to the Losing Side of Life!  I'm glad everything went well and you're feeling good!

What are some of the differences you'll be living with having had the DS instead of the RNY?

Diane I will have(my 5 yeat old had to add those smileys in) a few differences to deal with.  The differences will be that I have a normal functioning stomach.  I have no stoma and no pouch, which in turns means no dumping.  I will have to follow a higher protein, higher fat diet in order to maintain a weight loss.  I will rmalabsorb 80% of fats 50 % of protein and 50% of complex carbs.  However, I will absorb 100% of all sugars from regular carbs and of course refined sugars.  If you have any other questions let me know.  Oh, and I should meniton I have a vitamin regimen that I need to follow....just like RNY but maybe a few more.
