6 month diet history for the newbie
This is my second time around on the OH forums. First time was back in 2006 when I was trying to have surgery (DS) well things did not work out due to my dh insurance having a clause that I was not aware of for almost a year. After jumping through their hoops it seems it was there all along but the surgeons office and UHC could not find it while I was busy doing all the stuff they required.
Anyway so now I am back as the dh has new job and new insurance that has been checked out by both me and UHC and it seems it covers for the surgery. Only thing is now I have to get the 6 month diet thing going as before they did not require that as a requirement.
Anyone got any hints on what that is all about and how that works as well as the test that must be run due to the high BMI? I know something to do with the heart and lungs and since my surgery will be a revision from a 1982 stappling, I have to have an upper Gi done again because all the test I did in 2006 are now to old.
Also how about a surgeon cause the one I was going to use retired Adam Namman. I live near Houston.
If your GP is going to be doing the dr supervised visits, make sure that he is in touch with your surgeon and the insurance specialist to make sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. I missed one appointment and had to add two extra months to the process. Good thing I didn't need to start over.
You visit your doc once a month and discuss your eating habits, exercise habits and if you have any questions and they document your discussion. I lost about 12 pounds in 6 months - big whoop-ti-do!
Then your doc submits all that paperwork to the surgeon and they start the pre-surgery testing. Endoscopy, Colonoscopy (depending upon age & doc), lots of blood work, Chest x-ray, there's one other test, but I forget what it's called where they hook up all the sensors to your body and it's a quick thing. I also was required to get a pap and a mamogram. A psych evaluation and nutritional counseling was in order for me to from the surgeons office. It sounds like a lot but it's really not that bad.
Good luck!
Good Luck this time around. I hope everything goes well and you can have your surgery in a few short months!

My pre-op tests were blood work (they took 8 viles!!), ekg, chest xray. I also had to see a gyn to get on birth control.
There is a father and son team in Houston that has a tv show called big medicine. They are both Dr Davis. I'm not sure what hospital they are at but I have watched them perform lots of surgeries and would have to tried to go to them if I was in that area. I had mine done in Odessa with Dr Davenport.
Good luck, hon!
