Think I've Turned the Corner...
Hi All,
Hope this finds all of you happy, healthy and terrific! I'm just catching up on a few of the boards - I just did my response to the "Getting To Know You" thread. Kix - you'll want to check out my answer to my little known secret,it's my little jab to the political "redness" of where I live! You'll understand.
I'm 2 1/2 weeks out from my total knee replacement on my right knee. I'm healing up very well - got my Frankenstein staples out a week ago. Started outpatient physical therapy last week and it kicks my arse!! They show you what to do and say to do it for like 1 minute. I think "1 minute?!? Easy peasy!" WHOA! At like 1 minute 2 seconds I'm almost screaming, "I'm DONE!" LOL They tell me that it is hard and in a few weeks it will all start clicking for me. We're planning on having the left knee done in January and then I hope to be able to get a bicycle for my birthday in May! My physical therapist happens to be a huge cycling fiend and has offered to go to the right bike shop with us and help make sure I get the right bike for me!
The family drama I mentioned in an earlier post has toned down to a simmer. It's still there but we've all decided to just ignore it for awhile - it's our favorite coping mechanisim! It will come to a full boil again around the holidays - always does!
I jumped on the scale a week ago and was up 10 lbs. I'm sure it was higher than that right after surgery! I checked again yesterday and I'm down that 10 lbs plus another 1/2 lb. So I think my body is back into the RNY mode. However, I have been having some issues again about food tasting weird, not settling good, etc. Went a few days basially living on cheese - so not good for swelling joints!
Yesterday we went to a wedding and reception. A lot of the people there have known my dh since he was in high school. It was a lot of fun to realize that many people didn't recognize me - they were like, "That's George (my dh) and is that Jana or a new woman??" You could see the confusion on their faces when they came up to say hi to dh and then the utter amazement when they did realize it really was ME! Dh was strutting around like a pea**** he was so proud!!
At the reception there were potato chips just calling my name - I finally tried a few. Dh asked me how they were - I told him they tasted like grease and salt but I knew that if I kept eating them the grease and salt would start tasting really good and that would be really bad. He ate a few and threw them away. Luckily today I have no craving for them and tuna salad is filling me up just fine.
That's about it from my little corner of the world. Don't know if I'll weigh again for the Monday Weigh-In thread...I think I'll wait another week to give my body a chance to kick into high gear again.
take care,
Jana

Jana, funny you should pop up, I was thinking about you this morning while I was driving my sister's luxury ride over the Hogback to my favorite Starbux on the other side of Golden. She gets mad at me when I take the long way running errands; meanwhile, I don't understand why, when she has such a luxury ride, she isn't off driving somewhere every weekend. I can tell you if it was my car, you'd see a white Toyota Highlander Hybrid blur as I headed off to explore the parts of the state I've never seen.
Anyway, I decided if I end up getting a job before winter hits, I'm going to celebrate by taking a trip to Cripple Creek. If I head down that way, maybe we can round up PJ and have breakfast or lunch or a protein bar or something!
