September 29th will be the day.  They want me to check into the hospital a day early to get me ready.  I will spend 7 days in the hospital.
I have an appointment tommorow with a digestive doctor who is gonna stick something down my throat,  Honestly I have no idea its all in french and my husband isnt real familiar with it.
anyone else have this done?  any idea what its about?

I'm assuming it's an uppder endoscopy to take a look at your esophagus and stomach from the inside.  I didn't have it done beforehand.  Might be something they normally do or if they are suspicious of an ulcer???

Btw...9/29 is a good date - it's my 10th anniversary..lol

Keep us posted.

Congratulations!!!

It sounds like an upper GI - they will be looking for any visible abnormalities in your esophagus and stomach. Its not standard before surgery, but its common, especially if you tested positive for H.pylori or have symptoms of an ulcer or GERD.

Thanks for the help, I am sure that is what it is.  He also said something about checking to see if i have a certain bacteria, but again I dont know what or why.

Congratulations Laelle!  How exciting is that?!! Be sure you have all your vitamins and protein powder in supply, and I made sure I cleaned my house and did my laundry before so I didn't have to feel like I had to do anything but recuperate!!
Keep us posted!

Thanks everyone.  I havent managed to find protein powder here yet, but the doctor says he has everything that I will need for afterwards, vitamins, etc.  So I will just see what he comes up with.
I just fear it will be 30 days of yogurt and bouillon LOL.  There is a online store that services France, but my husband wont let me get anything because the doctor has not recommended it.
Sugeons in France are pretty much right up there with God, so you dont make a move without their approval.

The thing that he doesnt understand is that I will be doing it with you guys not France.  While there has been alot of these operations done here and I dont doubt their capabilities, I have doubts that they ever had someone who had to lose over 250 lbs.  I feel to succeed I need to follow others who have done it.  You guys are my living proof and all I have.  When I check into the hospital I will ask about my aftercare.  I am not so worried, France is the capital of pureed meat stuff so I feel pretty sure high protein foods wont be hard.

My surgeon says after the first few weeks I will eat like I did before, but much less.  Obviously no one has had to lose the amount of weight that I have to.  If so I think he would have a modified diet somewhere in that to help the MO do the best possible.

On second thought, maybe I will sneak the Credit Card and buy myself some Syntha 6, I noticed that they carried that...just in case.

I am counting totally on you guys for afterwards because the help here is little and what help I have is lost in the translation.  I will make sure at every check up I bring a journal of my diet and vitamins so that he will see how an AMERICANS do it.

thanks again all, and yes, I am very excited.  Already bought my sippy cups....even tho my husband thought I was totally off my rocker.  Gonna buy the blender and food processor today.
Anything else I need?

this test is done.  I wont say much else, it was not pleasant.  It makes me wonder what exactly I am getting myself into.  I am having second thoughts.
