I'm going to be required to do 6 months of dieting...

Without prior supervised dieting, my insurance will require me to do 6 months of dieting. I'm totally fine with that, but what I'm wondering is..will this hold up anything other than getting approved till I'm done? What I mean is, will my doctor keep moving along with everything he requires of me and then submit everything to my insurance once I'm done? Or, will I have to finish the 6 months first, and then start the process?  I go in for my first appointment in 11 days, and I'm just trying to get a heads up on what to expect.

Also, back in the late 90's I did go to a diet doctor for awhile. Can I try to get my records or was that too long ago??

Thanks,
Lisa

I had my weight on file with my pcp - he knows of my compulsive dieting.  So his nurse traced back 6 months and filled out the forms.

Usually, you start your classes and by month 3 you see the surgeon and get your preop testing and by the time month 6 rolls around, you have everything done and they can submit to the ins company.

Good luck!!

I went to see my surgeon in January for my initial consult. I found out that my insurance also required the 6 months of dieting supervised by my primary care doctor. I went to see my primary doctor once a month for a weigh in and dietary consult. During the 6 months, my bariatric surgeon had me complete all my necessary preop testing. I saw the psychologist, attending a seminar, attended group meeting, met with the nutrionist, had a cardiac and pulmonary clearance, saw a physical therapist and then had labs and xray done. Right after my last appointment in June with my primary doctor for my monthly dietary check up, the bariatric surgeons office sent all of my records/paperwork into my insurance. I was approved within one week.  I hope this information helps.

Thank you both so much! You have really help ease my mind. I was afraid that I would have to do 6 months of dieting with my PCP before starting anything with my WLS Doctor! I feel so much better now..Thanks again!!   *big hugs to you both*
