Holey Moley, our lives have been eventful lately. We are trying to decide whether to move in with our friends. There are some plusses and some minuses - if you are curious read on. If not, or you don't have the next hour free, skip to the end. I am kind of using this to get my thoughts more formulated anyway, not because any of you really need to hear it.
Plusses -
Rent and expenses would literally be 1/3 what we are paying right now
We already spend basically all of our free time together
We want to get out of debt and this is a real serious opportunity to do so
They have a HUGE house, and they need some financial help to keep it, essentially
They have very very little furniture and a LOT of empty space - we'd have room for all of our living room and office stuff on their second floor, basically we'd have our own living room plus our own bedroom and bathroom
We get along very well and would all benefit from the situation
Although its far, our roomate Joe works right near the university and he gets a company car and company gas and is willing to carpool on the days our schedules coincide (which would be 3 of 5 days per week)
Its much closer to my best friend, just a few minutes instead of 45min, so I could actually see her more than once a month
They have a dog (this is a big plus in my book)
Husband would have some male bonding - they live next to a golf course and Joe wants to learn and they also live walking distance from a lake, Joe wants to teach Ryan to fish
I have a HUGE year coming up and when I get really focused I usually neglect my husband and everything else in my life... now he will at least have other people to talk to sometimes and do things with when I am busy - this is also a minus because I have a HUGE year coming up and I'm not sure how much living with people would be a distraction
I'd have a real kitchen to cook in, I LOVE TO COOK, and they NEVER cook so they are excited by this idea also.. home cooked meals sometimes? a new concept for them. I'm excited at the idea of being able to cook for people and not have 10,000 containers of leftovers to deal with
I would have someone to go shopping with, even just groceries, who likes to shop instead of HATES to shop and gripes the entire time
They are willing to let us have half the garage for storage of our extra stuff, like washing machine/dryer and such, so we wouldn't have to get a storage building (although I am still thinking I'd rather park my car in the garage and get a storage building, just because I've never had the luxury of parking my car in a garage)
Its a HOUSE, not an apartment, no insane herpes people upstairs - there's a yard and a neighborhood, with sidewalks and I could walk the dog or ride a bike. I have not had these luxuries since I moved away to college at 18.
Minuses -
Its far from the university, really far, about a 45min commute each way
Between us we'd have 5 cats and a dog
My husband would have to come to work with me everyday (he'd have class and also we are planning to have him work his internet job exclusively as soon as I know my insurance through the university is actually REAL) - this is a positive and a negative, if he is captive at the university he might do better in school and also get more work done than he would if he was working from home, alone.
Between us we'd have 5 cats and a dog (yes I mentioned this twice, its a REALLY big minus - our pets would outnumber us... just the ten of us...)
I've had roomates before but Ryan has not, we aren't sure how he would deal with this (although I kind of think it would be nice because we'd have other people to talk to besides each other)
We are good friends and we'd hate that if things went bad we lost our friends - this is like commitment or something
Getting out of the lease we JUST signed isn't going to be cheap, it would deplete our meager savings and it would be a few months before we really saw a financial benefit to the new living situation (our current rent is 900 and they are asking us to pay 400, plus half the electricity and water - they pay cable and gas, trash, etc - and their huge house is so much cheaper to run electricity - our last month was 220, theirs was 70 - the joys of double-paned windows and efficient insulation and appliances!) We'd increase the electicity usage some though because I can't sleep at the temp they keep the house at, when I'm awake I like it around 80 but when I'm asleep I like it at 74ish)
We'd be soooo far from the Thai place we eat at about twice a week (LOL, I know I'm weird)
You can't run around naked with roomates around
So there you have it. I'm sure there are more plusses and minuses but that's all I can think of at the moment. So back to the real purpose of this post... food.
Here's my plan
B - glass of mootopia
S - 1 serving 2% cottage cheese, 1 cup NSA peaches (yes I am repetitive, I am a total food rut person since surgery, its very weird)
L - meatballs and a small salad
D - Thai (we are meeting the possible future roomates to discuss things further and maybe make a decision.. we are all kind of on the same page and leaning towards yes but not quite there yet) - I will have some summer rolls and steal a little pad thai from Ryan probably, and maybe some veggie soup.. I am salivating right now thinking about their veggie soup
S - either a fig or two (mmm fresh from farmers market) or some mango

You've got a tough decision to make; lots of pros and cons to consider. Good luck figuring out what you're going to do. Here's my food plan for Thursday:

No one can say you went in to this decision without thinking about it for sure. It sounds like a great fit especially the 2nd floor situation. we had one of my son's friends move in with us and it was ok for a while but he pressed on my nerves after about 2 months, but it was mostly because he didn't want to follow our house rules that our son had when he was under 18 like coming home before midnight, etc. But that's an entirely different situation that you are having to consider. I wish you much luck in your decision.
B - Premier Protein bar - it's so dense I could only eat 3/4 of it but that's still 22 g protein for 220 calories.
L - ??? I think I have a lunch date. Going to the "Nooner Cafe" Is that not the funniest restaurant name in the world. It's upscale food which is always highly herbacious and garlicky. I love being entertained by my sales reps!
D - home made vegetable beef soup. Made it last night and put the crock pot on this morning. Yummy
