When I first started eating I would eat protein first at every meal followed by a bite or two of fruits and veggies.

Don't force yourself to eat more than you feel like and don't worry right now. Just do what you can.

I also had a hard time making myself eat for the first 2-3 months after surgery.  My pouch was very sensitive, and even a half a bite too much of something could make me miserable for hours.  Talk about aversion therapy....

And it is hard to get a mix of proteins, fruits and veggies when you can eat so little!  I agree with Jan's advice, which was to do a bite of protein first, then a bite of fruit or a veggie, then protein, then another bite of fruit or a veggie.  Your pouch will slowly stretch over time, so it will become easier and easier to get in a variety of foods.  I also used soft proteins for quite a while - cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs w/ fat-free cheese, as they chewed up to really mushy texture and sat very well in my pouch (much better than beef, chicken, etc.).

It really does get better over time, so just stay the course.  I know it can be hard to make yourself eat, but follow your surgeon's advice and you'll be our next success story!!!

I always had 30 grams of protein from a shake that I could count on in the beginning, but I also measured my protein for each meal and knew that I needed to eat it to get my 60 oz in for the day.  If I could only eat the one scallop, I didn't eat any veggies.  I did, however, use the benefiber chewables because without any other roughage, I wasn't going to be using the bathroom.

Its so tough at first. For the first few months I lived on milk, avocado, cheese and peanut butter basically because that was pretty much all I could stand and all that settled. That and soup. Just do the best you can - focus on being protein forward. Cottage cheese or greek yogurt are great choices early out, and so is string cheese. For every bite or two of protein have a bite of fruit or veggie. No sugar added canned peaches settled ok for me. Avocado was the first veggie I could eat. Refried beans are also great for protein and fiber - add a little cheese and some tomato or salsa and voila, a complete balanced meal.

It gets easier, I swear. In the meantime, just do the best you can.

I was told to eat my protein first then veggies then fruit.
I try to do this as much as i can
It takes me along time to eat sometimes over an hour but when i feel full i stop and go back to it later.
I forget to eat alot of the  time i just get busy, then when i do eat im really hungry and i eat to fast.
Im almost 6 mths out and still have problems getting my protein in.
I love tomatoes so i eat cottage cheese with them.
I eat alittle fruit as a snack somewhere in my day..
I made chili monday and could only eat 3 bites of eat somethings dont feel me up as fast as others,
I have started doing my protein shakes or add to my drink 1st thing in the a.m.
Now its easier to keep down and in then i plan my meals for a few days with backups to make sure i have enough protien.
Good luck hon

I lived on refried beans with cheese, salsa and a little sour cream---protein and veg! ---and SF canned peaches and SF canned mandarin oranges (it was a carving!)  I also used a lot of those soups in the little microwave cups for lunch---Progresso, Healthy Choice----about 1/2 a day and put the lid back on for the next day (I have a little fridge in my classroom).

I was shooting for about 60 grams of protein and my doc/nut encouraged me to find some kind of drink that I liked (doesn't do any good if you hate it).  I found that making Jello SF instant pudding and mixing in unflavored protein like Unjury worked and also mixing the flavored powders at about 1/2 the amount with 1 cup of milk instead of water worked better for me (less nasty taste)  I used Calorie Countdown milk (both reg and chocolate) because the protein count is higher.

My "china" at the time was dixie cups so 2-3 bites is about normal.  Good luck!

Also for the first 6  months I didn't drink regular coffee and missed it terribly so the AchievOne shakes were a Godsend!!!!
