First Day of School
I live within walking distance of an elementary school, and today is the first day of school in our county. (It seems early to me and I had no idea why school is starting in mid-August, but I heard on the radio that the parents and kids requested an early start so they can have a four day weekend in October and also finish up their semester work before the winter break).
Anyway, I've been watching parents walk their kids to school. There are a fair number of dads in the crowd, too. Far different from the olden days, when we would walk to school with our friends, excited and full of anticipation for what lay ahead. I don't remember any of our parents accompanying us to school on the first day (even in kindergarten, I just walked to school with my older siblings). Come to think of it, my parents never, EVER walked as a form of transportation or for pleasure.
WLS is kind of like that, isn't it? When you're getting ready for surgery, it's like waiting for the first day of school. Surgery day is the first day of school, and from there, it's a learning experience day after day.

Kix,
Wash your mouth out with soap (check on carb count) for saying that evil word - SCHOOL!!!!
Actually, I have to go in tomorrow for a meeting but we don't start until the 25th.
Speaking of, I was just thinking today about "my plan"...you know, what stuff I need for lunch, snacks, etc. Lesson Plans? Nope, not what I was talkin' about.
There is such a collection of small portable food items out there now...I found (new to me) little cartons of milk that can stay out of the fridge! And little PB cups and of course, apple slices, and those evil 100 calorie packs of everything. No excuse for a kid or an adult not having a healthy lunch.

My family never walked anywhere that I can remember. I guess it was because they all HAD TO during the Depression and riding was considered a luxury. My gran wouldn't marry my grandpap till he had a car, even if it was a junk heap!
I had been a preemie, had a heart murmur, was clumsy, and my mother lost my 3 mo old baby sister to SIDS or "crib death" so she was very overprotective of me when I was little.
My fist day of kindergarten with Mrs. Brown was my Mother, hauling me in my the hand, and giving Mrs.Brown a list of what I could and could not do. I could read and write and sign my name in cursive. I was not allowed to go to the girls room or to the cafeteria alone. I was to eat my home packed lunch and never trade food with another child. We had a little alcove area with 3 or 4 small steps leading to a reading area, and I was to be held by the hand down those steps because I could fall. I was not to participate in gym class. If we had a field trip I must hold hands with another student in case I would trip and fall or get lost. etc etc. I wanted to melt into the carpet!
Funny thing tho, when I was 10, and my parents divorced, mom stopped caring about what might happen to me. Suddenly, her life was her own and I was left to my own devices or sent to my grans. At that point all I was, was a burden to her. Funny how things change a person.

I love watching the little ones on their first day of school and watching the parents tear up.
Mine started high school today and he is so mild and meek i worry about him.He is like a walking time bomb he takes everything dished out to him and he is gonna explode one of these days.My other is in 8th but he has a mouth like me(noone is safe within ear shot) if i get mad.lol
But yes this surgery is a great learning experience and alot of trial and error.
Im at a big standstill and im watching to make sure ive not gotten off the track.but i think its my protein and water.
But i learn something new everyday .
I wont come home with a diploma but i will truly be a more knowlegable and healthy person..
