Done with my AA!!

After 22 years, I finished my AA degree just a few days ago  .  I started out with a pathetic 1.96 GPA (I wasn't interested in college in 1986) and managed to bring it up to a 3.5.  I can remember starting to finish school just before surgery and the panic of not being able to fit into the desks.  I would get to all the classes very early to find one of the few desks that weren't attached and had a separate chair and desk.

Wow, I've come a long way since last August.  I just finished a class with the 200 seat auditoriums and the very small swing out chairs that I was so miserable in last august.  I sat all the way in the back of the class so no one could tell that I was crammed into the seat.  How embarrasing.  Now I just slipped into the seat no problem.

I'm so glad to be finished with that general ed stuff and now I can move on to the meat of my degree in Communication Arts.

Congratulations on wrapping up your AA! Isn't it interesting how our attitudes change about the effort we are willing to put into studying once we are a bit more mature and have been in the workforce?

And what's with the tiny seats in those lecture halls? Congratulations on fitting into one!

PS - Kix, I had way too much fun as an undergrad myself. Then again, it WAS the early 70's....

Woo!

I know how hard it is to finish school.  I went back and got my Masters, and because my health decided to tank in the middle of it all, I ended up on the seven year plan.  My GPA was much higher for my Masters than it was for my BA (I had a great time in college!).

Keep making us proud!

Woo Hoo!  Congrats Kathy.  You must be so psyched.  I so understand the seat size thing.   I would have gone back to school if not for my size.    Now I just don't know what I want to do when I grow up, lol.

Keep up the great work

Congratulations on finishing your AA degree!    That's a terrific accomplishment and you must feel fantastic!  Good job bringing up your GPA too - I think it takes a certain level of maturity to understand the full importance of an education.

I completely understand what you're saying about the seat size.  Before I started my master's program I visited the school and checked out ALL of the classrooms to make sure that I would be able to fit in the seats.  I didn't want to be unable to have a spot in the classroom.  Audotoriums are my biggest fear (as I mentioned when you posted about upgrading your theatre's seating) so finishing your class in an auditorium must have been a real WOW moment!

Best wishes moving on to working on your Communication Arts degree.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much.

I started a degree in 1988. I went back in 2005 with a 1.76 GPA. I finally graduated June 2, 2007 with my Bachelors degree. I finished with a 3.89 and I had a 4.0 in my last 6 semesters. I then got licensed as a Licensed Addiction Counselor, that took another year. I tell my kids, do it while you are young cuz it sucks doing it while working full time and raising a family.

I am proud of you, don't stop, it is completely doable.
