Gym is Open (Work It Wednesday) 8/6

It's Wednesday!  All hail Hump Day!

I did not get much of a workout yesterday because I felt woozy and floppy most of the day.  Today, however, I plan to work it as much as possible.  I may even throw in another bit of exercise by telling myself I don't get to buy any lotto scratchers today unless I walk up to the convenience store (about a half-mile each way) instead of buying them at the store near the gym.  We'll see what kind of motivator that is!

The gym is open!  Even if you don't do what I call "formal" exercising at a gym, there are lots of ways to "work it" and burn those evil, evil calories.

It's Happy Telework Wednesday for me. Since we don't have A/C and it is forecast hot again tomorrow, I'm taking my pool workout break when I can't stand the temp in the house!

I have been trying to walk more at work. I think I need to get one of those doflickies that counts my steps.

How can you survive without AC?  I would absolutely die, I think, but it's 80% humidity here and 95+ degrees so compared to OR, I guess it would be a necessity.  Is that common up there?

Every year DH and I have the debate - add A/C or not? We have had 2-3 mini hot spells a year the last few years, but if we close up the house early it is pretty good inside until 4 PM or so. Most days it cools off enough outside to open to house by 7-7:30.

Since I work in an air conditioned state office 4 days a week, the time I spend outside in hot spells is minimal.

And you are correct, Oregon has low humidity in the summer. If I were back in PA I would not be stirring outside of an air conditioned room at this temp. I could never live in the South. I was in Atlanta in August once for an IBM training and that was awful! You poor southern belles!

I noticed on the national weather that the temps were getting a bit toasty in Seattle, which means that Oregon will be slightly toastier.  Hope it isn't too unbearable!

I highly recommend my doflicky.  It's an Omrom walking style that I bought off of Amazon.com for $19.99.  It measures steps, calories, aerobic steps, and miles.  It also stores the data for the previous seven days.  It's very sturdy, I've been through four other doflickies before I found this one, and this one is a jewel.  It's shaped like Joe Friday's badge and you clip it to your waistband.

I looked for a model number, but I don't see one on it.

No gym for me yesterday since I worked from home , but I did make the grandson take a walk to our mailboxes with me and back... it's about a half mile round trip so it wasn't much and since it was so hot we took advantage of every shady spot to stop and sip sip sip!  LOL

This morning I did 30 mins of upper body weight training including my abs, which I've been ignoring for a while....

Ya'll have a great walk to get your scratchers... LOL

That sounds like a nice walk, and who knew you were old enough to be a gramma?  You sure don't look old enough!

Did your abs yodel at the thought of being exercises after having been ignored for a while?

I didn't walk to get my scratchers (hangs head in shame).  I did take the dogs on a longer walk, though.

Only managed 40 minutes upper body strength training today.  Had a glass of chardonnay last night and didn't sleep very well which is surprising following the wine.  So I was late getting up.  I actually threw the alarm on the floor this morning.

But I added another tricep exercise to my routine and chin ups (of course with the weight set on 250 to help me up!)

Kix, how's your old knee feeling?

Threw the alarm on the floor?!  Yikes, and you look like such a nice person, too!  I have never thrown an alarm, I prefer to just roll over and shut off the sucker.

I can't believe you can use such heavy weights in your strength training!  I'm up to 95 lbs on the quad machine, but for arms, the most I can manage is 30-40.

My knee is much better, however, my arch has decided to hurt.  I hope I didn't give myself plantar fascitis from doing the stair climber.  It could just be my advanced years are catching up with me!

Oh, no, you misunderstand.  It's a 250 pound assist to help me pull up my body weight.  There's a machine that you climb up on two steps then step on the bar.  The 250 pounds helps to counter your own body's weight so you can do the chin up. That's no fine accomplishment, but I feel strong when I'm up there.

Gawd, I'd look like one of those bone crusher olympic dead lifting champions if I was moving 250 pounds!
