thigh lift update

greetings all

well, i'm now 12 days out from having a thigh lift. it's a bit more challenging than the circumferential abdominoplasty...but still, going well. i have an incision on each inner thigh that runs from 2-3 inches below my knee up to my crotch, then forward several inches in the leg crease. they refer to this incision as the hockey-stick incision as that is what it is shaped like. the surgeon removed 2 lbs of skin from left leg, 1 3/4 from right leg.

even though i did all the 'tricks' recommended on the plastic surgery board (raised toilet seat, freshette, hovering instead of sitting on toilet), i still had the right leg incision pull open right at the point in the incision where the hockey stick turns. this happened on day 4 after surgery. it was a nasty looking hole about the size of a golf ball. but i've been packing it with betadine-soaked gauze twice daily, and it's healing really rapidly.

this morning when i got up was the first i've really had a glimpse of what my legs may end up looking like, as when i got up this morning - the swelling was greatly reduced! and what they look like is just amazing! i can hardly believe it! between this surgery, and the abdomino surgery -- well, i just can hardly believe the body in the mirror is MY body! what a thrill!

a brief background for those unfamiliar with me: i started at 463 lbs with a bmi of 66 -- when i had this thigh surgery, i weighed 172 and my bmi is 24.

all the best to everyone!

Deb,  I am so happy to hear that you're pleased with the results this far!  I'll bet it only continues to get better from here.  It's too bad you had that little snag, but I do suppose these things happen when you have that much skin removed.  Hang in there and I hope that the rest of your recovery goes smoothly.

I'm glad you are doing well, Deb, and I'm pleased that you are happy with the results so far.  Your willingness to share your experience, and your joy at the results, are helping me have courage to go forward with my plastics.

Any chance on getting pictures of those fabulous thighs???

Hi Deb!!! It's great to hear you went through with more PS on your own. You continue to give me confidence.

Can you refer me to a good site to see the options for PS? I'm a bit overwhelmed with learning various options.

greetings julie! how's it going with you? well, i hope.

i mostly just started lurking at the PS message boards and reading the posts over there. there are lots of people there with loads of PS info to share.

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/plasticsurgery/a,messagebo ard/board_id,4861/

they're pretty friendly, too! kinda like over here - they've got a topic and info on that topic to share...not doing fighting and arguing like the main board.

things continue to be good with the thigh lift. i'm planning to post some before/after pics -- if i don't lose my nerve!

take care.
