Hi, surgery was on 7/24, I had morphine drip after that, then to go home I was switched to Lortab 500mg two tabs every 4 hours. which I have been taking religiously, but I often wake up two hours after taking them with a vise-like headache. Is it the morphine, the lortab, or lack of water,? I think I'm getting about 64oz of water a day. Help!

I think that it's pretty common after surgery.  I had some too.  Can't say for sure what causes them - if you're able to get in 64oz. water each day, that's good.  Is it caffeine withdrawal?

I would just be careful because you said you "think" you are getting in 64 oz of water a day.  Make sure you are drinking out of something that  you can quantify how much you are drinking especially in the summer.

Congrats on the surgery!

I'm betting its lack of water, and ketosis from burning fat.  It makes you feel like you have a bad hangover!  Also, if you were a caffeine drinker, it could be withdrawal from that.  If they continue and especially if they get worse, call your doc.  I do think its pretty common though.  When you see him at your first follow-up definitely ask about it.

Alot of pain meds have whats called "a rebound effect". I found this out using painkillers for my migraines. The more Rx meds I took, the more headaches I got. This may be your trouble. I hope not.
Try an ice pack on your forehead or on the back of your neck, that helps me with my headaches.
I hope you feel better soon. Congrats on your surgery!
