Lower back pain - from shifting weight?

Good morning all!

I wanted to find out if any of you have had this - new lower back pain after weight loss. I've noticed a couple of things that make me think it's being caused by my weight loss.

1. When I'm working at the kitchen sink, I feel like I'm standing too far away from the faucet.  If I lift up my new, looser panni to rest on the counter top, I can stand closer and straighter - which feels better.

2. I had more pain and stiffness yesterday than I did today. I swam yesterday for the first time since my cellulitis, and while it hurt a bit at first to do the dolphin kick, it did help ease ut stiffness (as did the hot tub).

3. My balance is a bit off. I'm not dizzy at all, but at times I feel off center. Like me center of gravity has shifted.

Does this make any sense?

Thanks,

Patty

All of this makes sense to me.  I am short and have short arms.  I had a faucet installed that extends out over the sink more and it helped my with my existing back pain.  I wish you well.  Loris

That's a good idea for short arms. My arms are plenty long enough (I used to be 5' 10" before I shrunk), so in my case, it's the tummy area holding me away from the sink.

Yep makes sense to me, especially the off balance thing.  I definitely have that problem, and my aches and pains are a little different now.

Gosh, I bet. You are making such a rapid change, I'm surprised you have any balance at all!

I haven't lost too much weight yet, but I've noticed a tremendous difference in these sorts of things as well.  I think that the pain that I've been having is that with the shifting of my weight my shoes no longer fit properly.  They are too big and turned outward too far.  I know that this causes some of my new back pains so I'm planning on getting new shoes at the soonest.  So, my idea might be to check and see if some new shoes might help (if you haven't already done so).

You didn't mention this, but I also have noticed that my backside is very uncomfortable when I sit now.  I've lost a lot of my weight in that area and sitting for extended periods of time makes my back hurt like crazy.  I try to get up and walk around and stand as much as possible now.  Never thought I'd hear myself say that...

I hope that you're feeling better soon.  I've had back pain for many years.  I really like the Therma Wraps - the lower back ones have a band that you can wrap around your waist with pockets for the thermal pack - they don't fit around my waist so I buy the ones that are meant for your shoulder...they have sticky on both ends and I just stick them so that the heat will hit the area of pain.

Thanks for the suggestion about shoes. I've been wearing Wolky's for the last few years. Of the 2 pairs in the current wardrobe, the "everyday" shoes are a bit beat down. I think it is time for a new pair.

Try sitting farther (further?) back in your chair.  I found the smaller I got the more I had to scoot back in my chair so that I was sitting on my bottom instead of my back.  It really helps.  Good luck, Loris

My pain is in my hips.  I am not finding much to relieve the pain, but hopefully as I exercise more it will work out on it's own.  At least that is what I am hoping for.  I did have some problems with nerve, muscle and tendon pain as I lost fat and those body parts were exposed more, but that seems to be working itself out too.
