Anyone with 60 BMI have Lap Band?
Does anyone out there with a BMI over 60 ever have the lap band?? Everyone I look at here has had the RNY. I just had lap band 3 months ago and am currently down 52 lbs, but would like to know if anyone else has had it and how they are doing. Help!!! Did I make a mistake????

(but hopefully less of me soon

I think there was someone on here a couple of weeks ago asking the same question. Look back a few pages. Also, you can click on the member list and see all the posters to this forum and that may help you out too. You can also try posting on the lap band board to see if there's anyone out there too.
Congrats on the 52 pounds! Sounds like you've got a fantastic start!

Congratulations on your loss so far :). That is awesome. My BMI was almost 62. I had the lapbad done on July 13th and as of this past Tuesday am down 22.5. This is just my opinion, but how could you have made a mistake???? It's working beautifully for you..right? I think it is a very personal choice and you made the choice for personal reasons right? Studies are showing that over time the weight loss pretty much balances out for a lot of the surgeries. I think you made a great choice and are doing AWESOME!!! Keep up the great work :)
Jo Ann,
I think there are quite a few people with BMI over 60 that had a lap band and been very successful for it. People choose different surgeries for their own personal reasons and you decided that the LapBand was right for you. Like others said, I personally know someone that has lost over 150 pounds with the LapBand and I'm sure it's not the person that the others mentioned....so there are multiple people who have been very successful.

Thanks everyone for your input. Yes I made the decision because of my age, health and the fact that I have a young child (and I was scared to death of the more invasive surgery). And yes, I am doing good so far. I guess I'm just impatient.... I want it gone NOW!!!! LOL I wake up every morning and say to myself... damn... i'm still fat this isn't working LOL Yes I know it's only been four months (and I go again this weds for another fill and a weigh in), it just seems so much slower than the RNY and on this forum most of those with a BMI over 60 have had the RNY. Just trying to convince myself I didn't make a mistake by NOT doing the RNY, and that others having the lap band done have seen good results. Thanks for all your encouragement and lets all keep losing!!!!

Hey JoAnn,
When I started my journey 2 years ago I was at my heaviest 525lb and my BMI was like in the 70's. I had LapBand on 08/21/07. I had lost I have lost a total of 145lbs with 103 of that being since surgery. The past 6 months or so have been rough, being ill myself and my DH being ill since Easter, and other family members being ill. As of 05/01/08 I have had no insurance, so therefore I wasn't able to go get fills, because I just could not afford it. So I continue to most of the time to second guess my decision, but I think back to before all of this and I was doing awesome. So I have talked to the Dr. and they are going to give me a fill on 08/11 for no charge, so I am hoping this will jump start me back on track. It sucks to be doing so good and then stop and go the other way. My DH is having the LabBand sometime in Sept he is seeing the same doctor and this doctor requires you to do a two week liquid diet, so I have allready told him that I will do it with him, it will only help me and it will give him some dang good support from me. I am like you, I want the numbers to move the other direction. I am still losing inches, but those dang numbers on the floor just won't move down.....lol We made the LapBand decision for us, we knew that RNY lose's faster, but in the end it will all even out. You are doing great, keep up the good work and you will get there. I'm sure that you have heard this....we didn't get this way quickly and it is not going away quickly. Sorry this ran so long, this in yet another one of my sleepness nights......
