Day 4 presurgery diet:
Ok, so I am on Day 4 presurgery diet. It is going ok except I am struggling with the protein shakes. Dang they are nasty. I have tried several different varieties and uggh. I finally found something last night that I think I can stomach...it is 1 scoop protein powder, 1/2 tsp ( I dont like strong coffee taste) decaf coffee crystals, ice, water a little sugar free Devinci caramel and sugar free chocolate flavored syrup. The whole thing has 6 carbs., 135 calories, 1.5 grams of fat. So I have a of question: I remember reading that we cant use one of the pain relievers is it Ibuprofin or Aceteminophen?
Ibuprofen is on the no-no list. Any NSAID is not good (non-steroidal, anti-inflamatory). But aceteminophen is ok. Go ahead and get some liquid tylenol. It seems like a huge dose to take (I think 2 T) and it's pretty gross tasting, but when you have a headache or have pulled something, it works really fast. I can take pills now and I still opt for the liquid tylenol just because it works so quickly.
Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on making the protein drinks palatable. I really got sick of Unjury, but it's the only one that I liked. I bought the low carb Slim Fast shakes a few weeks ago because I was unprepared (who me, unprepared...imagine that) and they aren't too bad. 190 cals and 20 g of protein. But I still go back to my Unjury when I'm low for the day.
when's your surgery? Keep us posted.
Surgery is the 14th. I am excited but my addicted brain keeps telling me...oh is it really that bad to be 400 plus pounds? Maybe you should try one more time to lose it on your own! It is crazy the way our minds work, and I am an addictions counselor.
I am solidly commited to doing this and am soooo ready. I had two kids at the midwifes house without even a tylenol and did fine so I am not real scared of the pain part, and most people have said it is pretty tolerable.
I appreciate all of the support.

Carrie - Hang in there. The protein shakes are really nasty. Keep sticking with things you can stomach and then switch to something else once you get sick of it. Before you know it the 14th will be here.
You're not supposed to use ibuprofen. My surgery center is WAY different than everyone else's it seems, but they would NOT give me any medications in liquid form (told me that I would stay in the hospital until I kept the pills down). NEVER had a problem swallowing pills. If the liquid stuff is too nasty you might want to talk with your medical team about trying to swallow the pills.
You and I are a lot alike - I am also 400+ and an addictions counselor. And, I too, wondered if I *really* needed to do the surgery - I still ask myself that every once in a while post-op, but I've gotten far enough along that I don't want my life any other way. I am so not interested in food that I never want to eat as much as I see other people eating in.
