Good Morning Kix! I'm not in the office today, but as soon as the park across the street opens at 6 AM I'm going for a walk/run/jog/pant....

You know, it's okay to wait until 7, or even 8 AM before you start panting!  Although in summer in TX, it's probably best to get all your outdoor stuff done before the heat fries you. Kix

And on the 5th day, she rests.  A bit premature perhaps (aren't we supposed to wait for the 7th day???), but I have lunch and dinner plans with friends, so am taking a break from the gym today.   I'm going to spread the rest of the topsoil on my front yard this weekend, and put down the seed/patch stuff, plus do the regular maintenance stuff in the backyard, so I'll get plenty of exercise this weekend.  If it rains and keeps me indoors, I'll either do some strength training at home or pop up to the gym for a couple hours.   What did you do today, Kix??? Well, Kellie, if I can get my floppy azz out of this house, I'll go to the gym.  The weather is glorious, so I'm tempted to run away and do something outdoorsy, but I need the cardio the gym provides.  I can promise you I will not do yardwork (except for pulling the stuff out that is growing between the rocks -- they look like plants to me, but my sister insists they are weeds and must be pulled) because my sister has a yard service.  Too bad, I actually like mowing and edging the lawn.  I've delayed leaving the house because I ate 1000 garbanzos on my salad last night and garbanzos do evil things to my colon (TMI!  ), but I think it's finally safe to leave the house now! I struggle about going to the gym when the weather is nice, but I just can't burn the same number of calories or get my heart rate up either walking or riding my bike.  And my knees just can't handle running.  I do sometimes "reward" myself with a walk in the park or an even bike ride if I've already gone to the gym.  It works for me because I really, really, really like being outside.   I love doing my own yard work; my parents have 10 acres, so when I was a kid we all had to pitch in with yard work and my Dad also great a huge garden (1/2 acre or so).  So there was also gardening work or yard work that needed to be done.  As a kid, I hated it - would rather have been reading or watching tv or doing anything but working outside.  But as an adult, I love getting outside, puttering in my yard, the smell of fresh-cut grass, the feel of dirt on my hands, and how great I feel when I'm done and look around at what I accomplished.  If you're even in Cleveland, you are welcome to putter in my yard Glad the garbanzo beans have worn off and that it's safe to move about now!  I hope you have a great day and a fantastic weekend!!! My reward for 30 minutes of cardio is a venti decaf at Starbucks!  It's the only way I can justify paying $1.85 for a 20 oz coffee!    As for yardwork, I used to earn my summer keep in high school mowing and edging lawns (and also pulling weeds, although not as much fun) and my winter keep shoveling snow from driveways.  My folks were immigrants from Denmark, and I do believe the country's motto is "Sleep?  You can sleep when you're dead," because every Dane I've known (both here in the US and in the motherland) devoutly subscribes to the old chestnut that "Hard work never killed anyone." Speaking of rewards, I had my venti decaf today with a shot of SF mocha as a treat for getting 30 miuntes of good cardio done (i cranked the speed up to 2.7 because 2.3 just doesn't get my heart pounding hard enough any more.  The treadmill program keeps saying, INCREASE SPEED because the incline only goes to 15% and 2.3 was too slow even at 15%).  I also started a bit of my strength training again, doing abductors and adductors as well as quads, plus 30 ab crunches (10 on each side and 10 in the middle).  It felt good! You have a fun weekend, too, and I'll be looking for your yard on HGTV!  Kix
